  1. We had a weekday lunch at Dhaaba a couple of months ago. Both Dhaaba and Dragonel have buffet lunches at $7.95 each. As my wife and I had been to dinner at Dragonel twice before, we opted for Dhaaba. Food was good, though not nearly as exotic as described above. There was an excellent cabbage salad with a unique dressing (?sesame oil based), and the naan was brought fresh to the table. What was of interest was that you can go to both buffets for $2 more. When we asked the waiter how this would be done, he told us that we could walk over to Dragonel either via outside or through the small connecting portall in the middle of both restaurants. We had already had second helpings at that point so we left thatchallenge for another day.
  2. I've been to both places in the last few months. Personally, I give the edge to Masa. Flirt has an edgy feel, sort of NYC-ish--waitstaff in black, etc. Teeshirts with their logo for sale. Menu is much more limited. Basic rolls for my kids were overpriced. I did like their tower of tuna--tuna tartare on layers of nacho chips. Masa's menu is much more expansive, and less expensive. Although the more original rolls were 8-12, the basic rolls(which my kids eat) were more affordable. They run about $2-3 less per basic roll and 4-6 less per "fancy roll" than Flirt. I particularily like their Cajun roll. We brought sake on one occasion which they heated up in small portions throughout the meal. On the other hand, my wife had tempura which was one of the worst examples of this dish we have ever had--soggy and tasteless. But you can't go wrong with the sushi here. Also, for what it is worth, there is a large Japanese contingent that eats here. PS I am not related to MikeyMike
  3. It's Depiero's, by the way. They have recently added a seafood counter (a little pricey, not superior to small fish stores), and an upscale butcher. Among other things, I was able to find andouille sausages there recently for a gumbo I was making.
  4. Thanks for a wonderful mealfolks. Kudos to all who organized it. Brought home the soup dumplings and the zioghi??--kids ate 'em all up. Looking forward to the next one.
  5. We had excellent burgers at the ABG today (Allendale Bar & Grill). Recommend you skip the standard undistinguished fries and get a side of french fried sweet potatoes instead. (OK, they're probably yams). Better tip--bring your kids and order them the kids burger--its about 1/2 the size, and is less than $3, including a small portion of the fries. They won't care about undistinguished fries.
  6. Went to Red Kat tonight in Little Ferry, on Main St close to Routes 46 and 17. Tony, the owner-chef came out at the end of the evening. He has been involved at both Cafe Panache in Ramsey and Citrus Grille in Airmont, NY. The restaurant has been open since September, and will be reviewed in the Record in the next week or two. Food is sort of eclectic American, similar to the menu at Citrus Grille. Most appetizers were salad based, ran from $5-10. We had excellent hanger steak and duck for our main courses, and our friends both raved over the veal medallions. Main courses ran $15-20. Desserts were inventive--$6 each. Service was low-key and flawless. It is BYOB. Tony says he originally expected most customers to come from the Ft Lee/Englewood area-but he is seeing customers from the Pascack Valley towns and as far as Short Hills. Has anyone else been there?
