  1. Hello, all - Just a quick recommendation for anyone interested in caskstrength rums. Cadenhead's just released a Barbados "BRS (Rockley)" from the Blackrock Distillery. It's a pot still 16 y.o. bottled in 2003 at 67.7% abv. I picked up a bottle last weekend and have only tried it once so far, both with and without a bit of water, and it's very impressive, indeed. What particularly stood out was a very refreshing, almost minty note on the finish. More tasting notes as I become more familiar with it. Cheers, Jay
  2. Thanks for posting that, Ed. I don't think I'd have found out about this Rum Fest without your post. I'll be in NYC that week, anyway, for the Whisky Fest the following night. Look forward to meeting you! Cheers, Jay
  3. Thanks for all the info, guys! So, it seems that these abbreviations are either for the distillery, the particular make/style from a distillery, or an individual still. Makes sense, I guess. Anyone know if anyone other than Cadenhead's uses similar abbreviations on their bottlings? Cheers, Jay
  4. Hi, all - I'm hoping someone knows the answer to this or at least can point me in the right direction. Most of the Cadenhead's "Dated Distillation Rums" carry an abbreviation along with the country and distillery of origin. I've been unable to find out what they mean. Believe it or not, even Cadenhead's couldn't tell me. Here are examples: Barbados WIRR from Blackrock Distillery 14 Y 69,2 % Demerara VSG from Enmore Distillery 10 Y 75,7 % Demerara VSG from Enmore Distillery 11 Y 74,2 % Demerara GM from Uitvlugt Distillery 25 Y 70,2 % Demerara PM from Uitvlugt Distillery 36 Y 69,3 % Guyanan PDW from Caribbean Distillers Ltd 28 Y 63,2 % Guyanan PDW from Caribbean Distillers Ltd 29 Y 60,9 % Jamaican CRV from Long Pond Estate 13 Y 70,4 % Any ideas what the WIRR, VSG, GM, PM, PDW, and CRV signify? Cheers, Jay
  5. Hi, all - First time posting here, so please forgive me if I mess up something. Another link for Cadenhead's is their shop in Cologne, Germany, at www.cadenheads.de Edward - I'm curious: have you tried their 28 y.o. Guyanan and, if so, what did you think? A friend slipped it in on me during a blind tasting of whisky a few months back and I was absolutely amazed. I don't think it's available anymore (I was lucky to get the last bottle on had in Cologne), but they just brought out a 29 y.o. Cheers, Jay
