  1. im either staying at mandelay bay or luxor,,,but i was thinking or wynn. last  year we stayed at luxor but i just think wynn is going to be a great resort. little ms,,please keep me in touch with your buddies ok. i will reward ya!  any idea when its opening??

***Their website says April 28. I'm going in June when all the kinks should be worked-out. Can't wait !

  2. It's going to cost $200 with a book, making it the most expensive Cooks and Books event ever apparently.

    De-lurking to say: Holy ****!

This is the Bouchon cookbook, n'est pas? Bistro cooking?! Dinner at the French Laundry itself only costs $175... I love Ethan, and I love Keller, but that seems a tad nuts.

    ~A

Yup it's Bouchon but hey, it's a hell of lot easier than trying to get reservations at French Laundry.

    Rocky

***Rocky, your comment would make more sense to me IF Thomas Keller was cooking a French Laundry-style meal in Seattle. Granted I've not eaten at Bouchon but "French Bistro Style" in my experience is a far cry from the calibre of meals served at French Laundry where I've dined twice and spent less money than $500/couple.

I guess I'm just disappointed and a little turned-off with pricing that makes little sense to me.

  3. HI Wendy! Hey, thanks for the offer. I'll be very interested in what inside info you can give me.

vegasreporter: You know, the plan actually IS to spend all of our time at WYNN so it will just be a matter of how many of the hotel's restaurants we can hit during our stay.

In Aug. I'll be staying at the other end of town (Mandalay Bay) and I'm really looking forward to one of those Kobe Beef Hamburgers from Burger Bar that Wendy has reported on. Sounded wonderful!

  4. Hard to do Le Cirque with Juliano Serrano nearby working his nightly magic at Picasso.  Have you heard about Sensi, the new place that opened inside the Bellagio's new spa tower? I need to make my way over there.

***Right again. Picasso is wonderful but I'd have to give Le Cirque the nod if I had to choose between the two (now there's a real problem....LOL )

I've been to Le Cirque in NY and find the Las Vegas outpost much more charming in design and the service so quietly efficient.

Well, gee, you live in Las Vegas so you can just hop on over to try all the exciting new places.

I've not heard what type of food Sensi will be serving...??

Also, nightscotman really loves Fix and I haven't been there yet either.

Ummmmmmmmmmm what's a girl to do. So many great restaurants popping up all the time. You know...I can remember when there were NO and I mean NO great restaurants in LV.

Times have changed and definitely for the better....

  5. Ok, Valentino at The Venetian might be the most underrated restaurant in Las Vegas. Chef Piero Selvaggio is superb. He's always in the kitchen. The wine list is also impressive. I brough my parents (true NY food snobs) and they loved it.

***Well, we agree on VALENTINO! Been several times and always perfect service and food to match. Yes, the wine list great !

OK....how about Le Cirque? a close tie with Bradley Ogden as my favorite.

I love Archi's Thai Kitchen. Better than Lotus of Siam.

The Joyful House on Spring Mountain Road is the best Chinese food in town. Period.

Kim Pho Long down the street has some mean Pho.

I think those are the best Asian places in town.

John Mariani of Esquire likes Commander's Palace. And Alan Richman of GQ speaks highly of Michael's at Barbary Coast.

What about Bobby Flay's new place, Mesa Grill at Caesar's Palace? I'm heading there tomorrow night.

***I'm probably the only one on this board to not LOVE Asian food...but I'm guilty. Just doesn't do it for me....probably because I'm very wimpy when it comes to highly seasoned food...I usually have to ask for Negative 1 level of heat.

Been to Commander's Palace once for brunch and got indigestion...as did my husband...so I haven't been back. I DO love Emeril's Fish House though.

Went to Michael's a long time ago....just seemed a little "dated" when I looked at the menu. Guess I'd have to say I prefer a more creative approach to cooking.

Mesa Grill does look beautiful....I think it's going to be a winner....will have to try it one day soon.

I'm mostly drawn to Italian, French or what I would call Bradley Ogden "California Eclectic French" if that makes any sense.

Red Square is a fun place with surprisingly good food....stumbled on to that one a few years back.

Rosemary's is a long drive but the food is wonderful.

    Ummmmmm what else??

  7. Foodie-Girl:

Don't miss Bradley Ogden at Caesars Palace. Exceptional food. Bradley is always there, approaching tables and getting feedback. The service is great. Also, I know Craftsteak is a NYC knockoff but the steaks are fantastic. Both places are pricey but worth the cost.

Also, Alain Ducasse recently opened Mix Las Vegas atop of Mandalay Bay's new hotel tower. Could be worth trying. But don't plan on seeing Ducasse. I'd be interested in hearing your opinion.

***I'm coming to LV again in August and will be staying at either Mandalay Bay or Four Seasons...so I'm hoping to try MIX as well as BURGER BAR for lunch.

***I've been to BO twice and think it's tops! Enjoyed CRAFTSTEAK but felt PRIME better as far as ambience, service and quality of meal. I like DELMONICO but put it behind PRIME>

Actually seeing or meeting these fabulous chefs is always a bonus but getting a short tour of the BO kitchen was a treat in itself....!

Other places that you love??? I'm always interested in seeing what other people enjoy.....

  8. Nine of the 19 restaurants and bars at Wynn Las Vegas will be chef-driven concepts. The list includes Daniel Boulud,  Jimmy Sneed, Paul Bartolotta, Stephen Kalt, Eric Klein, Alex Stratta, Mark LoRusso and Takashi Yagihashi.

***I'm only familiar with Daniel Boulud (guess I haven't been getting out much lately). Would you mind telling us a little about the other chefs? THANKS !

  9. You can slice it up and stack between layers of wax paper, wrap with foil to make sure it's air-tight and freeze it for future use.

I LOVE foie gras but "too much of a good thing" is another way of looking at it.

How nice it will be to take some out of the freezer in a week or so/sear it to perfection and have an amazing little treat....((-:

  10. Happy New Year everyone !!

Dinner-in for New Years Eve with our neighbors...youngish non-foodie couple.

    Kir Royales

Osetra Caviar on toasted French bread spread with sweet butter (thankfully they didn't eat too much!!)

Chicken Liver Pate' on cocktail rye

    Dungeness Crab Salad on crackers

    Braciole with Creamy Polenta

    "Baby Cakes" (4-inch round and heart-shaped ) in lemon/glaze and chocolate/espresso glaze.

Our young friends are expecting a baby and not too adventurous so that left plenty of champagne/caviar/pate' for us...LOL

Hope everyone had a great evening and I'm looking forward to more eG gatherings in the coming year!!

    Foodie-Girl (Char)

  11. I also think a note (mine wouldn't so discreet...LOL) is called for in this situation. I will be very much surprised if the chef doesn't make things right with you.

What a terrible blunder not to ask if you were interested in a bottle. I'm really floored by your experience...

I've been to Lampreia twice and the service has been outstanding on both visits.

    The food? Sublime !
