  1. Thanks Kayb for the explanation. Wine vs vinegar, got it. Pat
  2. Hi 2 noob questions. What is Mirin exactly? I use Marukan seasoned rice vinegar for my sushi which I like. My wife is trying to make a Ramen dish and the recipe calls for Mirin. What is the difference between my Marukan vinegar and Mirin? Second question is about clams. I bought some "White cockle clams" to eat as Nigiri in an Asian grocery store. The box says ready to eat. Are they cooked? (I will eat as is but just wondering if I am eating a raw clam). Thanks a lot Pat
  3. Thanks for all the answers so far. We are doing it this week-end along with some nigiri sushi. Pat

  9. Hi I went to a Japanese grocery store here in Atlanta and bought some Tako (Octopus). I went online to do some research and read that often Tako sachimi is boiled. is mine raw or boiled? If raw, is it ok to eat like that nigiri style or shall I boil it? Still learning sorry. Thxs Pat

  11. Do I just throw it in the frying pan with nothing? Or put some oil? Sorry for the dumb question 🙄 Thxs Pat

  13. Interesting link and website, I created an account there. I opened the package and tasted it. It has no taste but has that consistency I get when I eat crunch rolls in restaurants. I m making sushi tonight, i will try a roll with it. I just can't deal with making my own crunch, it's just me and my wife eating sushi and I make them like twice a month. Thxs for sharing Pat
  14. Hi I have been searching online and in an Asian supermarket for crunch and I found only this product. Is that it? Can't find on Ebay or Amazon. Thxs Patrick
