  1. Oops. Here's another article from The Arizona Daily Star, January 2, 2004.
  2. Here is a December 30, 2003 L.A. Times article (registration necessary, but it is free). It nicely outlines the demand for vodka, olives (!) the introduction of Napa's Shakers Original American Vodka and the debut of new publication Vodka magazine (to be out on the stands February, 2004). Personally my fav olive is a black one stuffed with red caviar. (Visit the Türi vodka website and take a look at the Türi Baltic Sea Martini Cocktail). Cheers!
  3. This is a link to the December 31, 2003, Rocky Mountain News's Food section, on line article, here. I *love* the suggestion of the white cosmopolitan (shameless plug for the Evolving Cocktails eGCI wherein I addressed this option). And notice -- complete list (with some delicious classics), recipes and nutritional info. Cheers!
  4. Anheuser-Busch Achieves Record U.S. Beer Volume In 2003
  5. I knew that by your previous post on this thread. No appreciation for dry humour!
  6. Welcome to eG stephenc. Brainwashed -- how so? By that cute holiday telly advert with the goose wearing a festive red bow? Taste is indeed subjective and insulting others by their choices may not be doing one any favours.
  7. Liking or disliking Flash is not relevant here. And while we're being pedantic and I decided to dredge up my good government's resources -- according to the USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference, 1.5 ounces of 80 proof gin, rum, vodka and whiskey contains 0 grams of carbohydrates. That is of course without specific brands and only as a "stardard reference." Well, good for those 3 vodka guys with their start-up company and establishing a strong, marketing foot hold with that bold red oval artwork asserting "No Carbs." Apparently, per a L.A. bartender acquaitance, this is one of *the* vodkas gaining fast popularity and one of the most requested in markets such as Hollywood, California. Interesting to note the new area of advertising for liquor that has never been previously explored. (Aside from ye olde medicinal boasts or proclamations.... ) edit: typo
  8. Are in front of the bar or behind the bar most of your time Generally either/or. The rest of the time I'm an eG inhabitant! (Mondays and Tuesdays are almost always non-work days). And good point Mabelline! I chew ice, almost unconsiously, but not when I'm drunk. I do it to slow down consumption when I know I'm around a few that drink like Vikings... Ouch! Granite!! Sure to make you a toothless wonder within seconds!
  9. Welcome to eG The Red Dart! Jump right in!
  10. Pet peeve or not, 98% of the alcohol distillery websites are all Flash -- some even going so far as to be nightmare-ish (for awhile there Absolut was the worst about this time last year). There is a link to end the flash intro and I would suppose that the US liquor industry as such as it is, could not be permitted to purport such an assertion as "No Carbs" if that were not in fact true. I've read mixed reviews of it having a chocolaty finish and not the firey-ness of 100% potato vodkas. However, I've also read that it has the fragrance of rubbing alcohol, with a thin texture and lingering bitter after taste. All in all harsh, and somewhat antiseptic. But then taste is subjective, no? Cool bottle and cap design tho'. Apparently two cap-fulls equal a perfect shot, whatever that may be as determined by their designers. If I happen to see it out and about, or run into our local rep. I think a sample is in order. Interesting this is a start up from a Chicago based company, as far as I have been able to deduce. (Chicago Tribune article expired, but is available should I wish to shell out $2.95 for the viewing -- BLEH! Now, that's a pet peeve of mine!!!)
  11. Something that has a limited distribution, but may be purchased here, law permitting. They have quite a bit of hoopla in magazine reviews. Their website here. 2004 will indeed bring floods of carb questions to the barkeep.

Heck, I took the plunge and changed mine to 100 per page.
  13. My priorities are out of wack!
  14. That's what I thought too. I enjoy my bar glassware and don't enjoy scratches, nicks or chips! Besides, my kitchen countertop is granite. Something about placing chilled little chuncks of it into my single-malt.... Odd.
  15. I *love* Highland Park 12!!!! Great collection anil! I can never bring myself to toss away the well made box packaging or attractive bottle of a fine spirit. The memories.... edited to add: snap another pic and post when those boxes top the credenza! Maybe a few tasting notes along the way, in your adventure, for those of us that may be hesitant to take the plunge with a whole bottle purchase or to whet the appetite to sample the next new after-work happy hour single malt. Yum.
  16. This is yet another product I find goes hand in hand with Liquorfilter.com.

  19. Evidence FTV is becoming an entire waste of time. I am not permitted to express fully the words I have about that show without getting into some sort of trouble.... Sandra Lee is vile. Fini!
  20. Surfing for other info, I found DrinksMixer.com. Here is an index "Glossary" of drink ingredients wherein one can click to see additional information -- in part and relevant herein, nutritional information. While they provide a disclaimer, the info is interesting. Brands are listed, although certainly not comprehensive or exhaustive, as well as cocktails (linking to that recipe) containing that ingredient. Kinda handy. Curious? Clickety Here Who knew that Absinthe was 103 calories and 11g of carbos per ounce?
  21. Aw, I look at it as a lesson on how something worked!
  22. Clever? Nah. They are looking at the new $$$$$ bottom line A-B scored with aptly positioning their Michelob Ultra product, as well as being observant of diet fads/trends and the consumer group petition for nutritional labelling of alcohol (with DISCUS support). What I find interesting -- the folks at Bacardi asserted the following, falling into the promotion of healthful, active lifestyle with an ever so slight inference of consumption in moderation. Acquaintance and a well respected lady in the biz, Cheryl Charming, recently posted about constructing a webpage to satiate the amount of low carb email questions she has been receiving. I don't consider calories either. Meh. Re metabolizing alcohol, I'll refer you to an older, early eG post. Fad or forever?
  23. Excelllleeeent. Sounds like it was a hit. So, you'd make it again and recommend to others, eh? (sans some onion, unless you crave onion!) Oh, keep them coming! The ideas! The creativity! So delicious.
  24. I do love the Argyle Rose, and haven't ventured much higher than that price range for Rose sparklers. I, too, have to admit I enjoy the Brachetto. What a nice list of recommendations to hunt down for 2004. edit: clarity
  25. I've had those too but the kicker was the Eskimo Ice Cream. There was no fish in the stuff I ate. What made it doubly disgusting was the seal oil. It was extremely rancid. The Eskimos loved it but I had a hard time getting it past my nose. The blubber (muktuk?) wasn't nearly as bad. ahem. Inuit! At any rate, muktuk is black, thin layer of skin on white, pinkish blubber of whale. This is cut into small strips, salted and eaten. I've heard people tell me it tastes like coconut! I do also have a recipe for Muktuk Chowder should anyone be interested. Mukluk is beareded seal that I also have a recipe for Mutkluk Meatloaf or burgers. A few years ago now, someone brought seal to the gathering to share immediately following my dear Grandmother's funeral. I'm not sure what part of the seal was sitting within a large pool of rendered seal fat, but I nearly wretched. The day was stressful enough to consider some ill fated culinary adventure that would only place me into a more displeasing mood. But I did get quite a whiff of the delicacy. Lynx, beaver, dall sheep, muskrat, porcupine or polar bear anyone? I've got preparations for all of the aforementioned! Don't make me pull out my ancient copy of Out of Alaskan Kitchens wherein I have such goodies as Jellied Moose Nose!
