  1. A mixed salad comprising baby cos, charred asparagus, tomatoes, soft boiled eggs, olives and tuna with a lemon mayo & dill dressing. Followed by pineapple upside down cake with ice cream.
  2. I made a cake, an upside down pineapple, lime and coconut cake. This is quite an achievement, I reckon I've made a cake before, perhaps 40 years ago. That half of perfectly ripe pineapple in the fridge was calling out, "cake me".
  3. The bag came out of the freezer with the pork in it. After defrosting, I sliced the pork, and put it back in the bag with gochujang, soy and fresh ground pepper for an hour or so. Too easy !
  4. @rotuts, I checked the packet, it's real organic beetroot. The brand is Macro Organic owned by Woolworths (one of our two dominant grocery chains). We don't have TJ's in the antipodes (yet).
  5. Stir fried chilli pork with pineapple and hokkien noodles.
  6. Thanks for the details @shain. I want to try these, love google, but can't quite get my head around hydration with baked products. Could you please estimate quantities of bread flour and water for this non baker ?
  7. These are store bought parsnip, sweet potato, carrot and beetroot chips, served with homemade guacamole. Whew, saved that avocado just in time.
  8. Cotechino with lentils, creamy mash potatoes and a salad.
  9. A "bring a plate" lunch with some former colleagues. I brought the blue cheese madelaines with a dill mayo. Our host won the prawn tray in a raffle- $2 per ticket, bargain !
  10. Ha ha, they'd eat it all !
  11. Moroccan meatballs take two. I turned the couscous into a salad with preserved lemon, chopped honey carrots and soaked sultanas. Some fresh cottage cheese made from organic milk was mixed with chilli dressing. I called it cheese with bite. Marinated mushrooms and olive cheese bread.
  12. Blue cheese and herb madelaines....
  13. A slice of olive sourdough, a smear of good mayonnaise, slices of perfectly roasted chicken breast, sea salt, pepper.
  14. Hunters style chicken casserole with garlic beans and cheesy olive bread.
  15. For me bread with pasta or risotto is an Italian thing, a must do. We even have an older family friend who enjoys Chinese food, but feels the need to fill his pockets with bread before entering the restaurant. Here's another meal with bread ! Moroccan meatballs in a spicy Harissa sauce, with herby couscous, honey baby carrots, marinated mushrooms, salad and flatbreads.
  16. Love to travel and eat vicariously, keep going please
  17. Home after two weeks on holiday, so comfort food is in order. Risotto with chicken and asparagus, a leafy salad with lemon vinaigrette and toasted sourdough.
  18. This restaurant is located a few hundred metres from the popular tourist attraction Cataract Gorge, the meeting place of three rivers. It's on Paterson Street, hence the name, ie, nothing to do with eye issues. We wandered in at 6.15 pm on a Wednesday night hoping for a table, but no luck. That surprised me, so we booked a table for Thursday (last choice 5.30 pm, really) and enjoyed arguably the best meal of our 12 night trip to Tassie. Fresh oysters from Backmans Bay near Hobart. Nothing but lemon and pepper. Scottsdale pork belly twice cooked in Asian cider on a cauliflower puree with pear & quince port paste and walnut crumb. Chicken parmigiana with chips and salad (the reason for ordering this is a long story, better left unsaid). Creme brûlée with honey ice cream, raspberry puree, berries, pistachio and a wafer. Plus, a bottle of local Tamar Ridge Pinot Gris. Great service and atmosphere with yummy food, bookings advised.

  19. Lunch in Bridport on the north coast of Tasmania. The $10 battered fish & chips for me, a medium rare steak sandwich for he who must be fed. Plus a view.
  20. Well it's midday in Australia, and I'm having a wine too while following elections on line
  21. This was dinner on Sunday night in a small town called Bicheno on the east coast of Tasmania. Seafood chowder and wood fired pizza with prosciutto, olives, capers, chilli, anchovies, rocket and parmesan. All delicious. Oh, and a Devils Corner Sauvignon Blanc.
  22. I have a lot of trouble passing up a seafood chowder. I'm pretty sure once on a 14 day trip to New Zealand I had at least 7. This is a pub meal in Dunalley, a town ravaged by bushfires two years ago. Thankfully the historic hotel was saved. He who must be fed had a mixed grill.
  23. @kayb, no seasoning in the pouch, but a very garlicky aioli to go with them. With the benefit of hindsight, I would have ordered all natural. I might be spoilt oysterwise forever. Here's a photo of the bay...
  24. Oyster heaven. We're on Bruny Island, off the coast of Tasmania, Australia's island state with a pristine environment. Half a dozen natural, half a dozen kilpatrick, half a dozen wonton wrapped, and a glass of oyster bay Sauvignon Blanc.
  25. Meet Herb the chook. I made a paste of parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme, olive oil and sea salt, then stuffed it under his skin. Gravy was made with pan juices, stock and mustard. The sides are roasted potatoes, parsnips, butternut pumpkin and garlic, plus a sauté with cabbage, sprouts and bacon.
