Alaska Restaurants: Reviews & Recommendations
Rosie replied to a topic in Pacific Northwest & Alaska: Dining
I would also recommend that you see the interior of the state and the Yukon region. -
We didn't have to wait in Asbury Park. Service was very good. I have to look for my notes as far as diinner was concerned. Didn't post as it was a busy week and I had company. We enjoyed the food. The Asbury Park location had waits in the summer. We went on a weekday in early September.

The new place is much bigger and you shouldn't have to wait. There is a lovely bar area also. We were there on a weekday night in September and they were packed but there were enough tables that no one was waiting at the bar. Food was good but the place has a different ambiance than the Ocean Grove location.

As of yesterday 9/30/02 Scalini Fedeli has a liquor license. However, they are not set up yet to serve wine. Once they do start serving liquor/wine there will be a corkage charge. The price has not been determined as of today.

Would you please stop putting my name in the same sentence as lapdances!! I don't want people to know about all of my talents.

Thanks Ocean Grove Guy. Have you been to the new Moonstruck in Asbury Park?

Tommy--How would I recognize you without your jellyfish shirt?

Will see what I can find out. Wonder who they are buying it from. Not many liquor licenses in Chatham.

=Mark--Do you have an address and/or phone #. Are they BYO? Was there a restaurant there before? Thanks.

When I lived in Edison we frequented Moghul and always enjoyed the food there. They have another restaurant in Morristown. Thanks for the report.

You better pick me up also!

Me too. Or should I say two! But what happened to the sushi lunch? I was at a Restaurant Summit this week at The French Culinary Institute. Along with Michael Batterberry and four female chefs one who was Lidia Bastianich the dress issue was discussed. Lidia said that she never turns a customer away if she has a table. However, the table is set into a corner and basically out of the way. She said that she explains to the customer, if there is a problem with the location of the table, that they are being sat there out of respect for the other patrons who are dressed. Her philosophy is not to say that the restaurant has a dress code but when asked about a dress code the answer should be that "out of respect for the other customers patrons are asked to dress properly."

Chef B--Where do you work?

When I looked in the refrigerator this AM there were biscotti that I didn't buy. Lowell said they were in the doggie bag we brought home. Nice touch.

Sogno is a "do go." This BYO storefront restaurant at 69 Broad St, Red Bank is a cut above the many Italian restaurants in NJ. We munched on bread, herbed butter, and olive oil while reading the menu. Once we ordered olives, cheese and a few slices of cured meat were brought to the table. For appetizers I had broccoli rabe with roasted garlic and grilled lemon which was listed as a "side." Lowell had a special of polenta with wild mushrooms which I also helped him to finish. The sauce was fantastic as were all the sauces on the dishes we had. For an entrée I had beef short ribs braised in Barolo wine over farro with a horseradish gremolata. Very good. Lowell had a special of monkfish with escarole. We managed to share one dessert. A fresh peach tart with vanilla ice cream was a perfect ending to this meal. Coffee was good. Do try this place. Phone: 732-747-6969. BTW--I checked my files and David Corcoran from The New York Times gave this restaurant an excellent on 5/5/02.

It's no surprise that An American Grill, 246 Rt 10 W, Randolph won Best New American (North) 2002 restaurant in New Jersey Monthly magazine. We had a fabulous dinner there Friday night. Great bread and butter was placed on the table when we were seated and olive oil was brought per our request. While reading the menu we were also brought chunks of cheese and spicy addictive sauteed zucchini rounds. We started off with a special of pan seared seven spice ahi tuna served with baby arugula, caramelized onions and roasted peppers with a ginger-lime aioli sauce. This is one of my favorite appetizers. We also shared a delicious baked portobello mushroom topped with goat cheese and served with a bacon and balsamic vinegar demi-glace. One friend was eating lightly and had a shrimp cocktail. For entrees I had a "winner" of grilled salmon served over a luscious red and yellow Jersey tomato and red onion salad with grilled Belgian endive and asparagus. The fish was perfectly cooked medium rare as I requested. Lowell had his usual and favorite dish of juicy chicken breasts with scallops and wild mushrooms sautéed with garlic, fresh rosemary and a touch of lemon. The kitchen gladly accommodated a friend's dietary request and served him a plain broiled salmon with rice. Another friend had scallops with tomatoes, olives and capers in a garlic consume. All of us had to refrain from licking our plates clean as everything was so good. For dessert we shared an apple strudel with raisins served with vanilla ice cream. Phone: 973-442-9311 And you? Did you dine out this weekend?

I was at the French Culinary Institute a few days ago and a sign in the bathroom said "EVERYONE must wash their hands--VISITORS must wash their hands also."

It's a short 20 miles and worth it. Another suggestion is Brother's Moon in Hopewell.

I couldn't get a phone # from 411. Is that the correct spelling of the name?

McCormick & Schmick’s takes reservations--actually encourages you to make them. I will have a story on Table Hopping With Rosie 10/9.
