  1. Not a bad show. I was surprised I liked it. But it was very educational learning what it's like to get a show at FN. For example, looking at the early Mario takes, you have to wonder how he made it, but he did.

That said, I hate to sound like an old fogie, but in the olden days it seems like cooking was the top priority for the Food Network...now it's selling the sizzle and personality of the chef/cook.

Kinda reminds me of Fight Club. "The first rule of the Food Network is no one talks about the food."

But in all, I found the show educational as heck.

By the way, I listened to Gordon Elliot on Rocco DiSpirito's show today and he is going to be filling in for the show's host Marc Summers for at least one episode. He said Marc suffered a personal tragedy... (I know Marc suffers from OCD, but that doesn't seem the likely reason)

    Anyone know what happened?

  2. I like how that chick ran over Dingleberry (my favorite name for him, btw, wasn't he in one of the Austin Powers movies, wearing a kilt?) with the bus.  "Don't worry, you aint goin anywhere."  Too bad he dind't.

I thought of Dewfusberry but that ain't nice so I decided not to say it.

Not that it matters, but I'm with Holly and the others on this one. I work in the newspaper business and there are constant pressures and deadlines. The yeller editors don't get the repect or the work product as the team playing, high standard ones. And yeah, I've worked with both.

  3. Hi all, thought I would ask again, because I am not able to find the answer I am looking for in other threads. Perhaps you all can help me.

Has anyone had the $20 prix fixe lunch at JG? Do you get to sit inside JG or do you have to sit in Nougatine for it? What are the selections like? What's on the menu? Did you enjoy it? Thanks in advance!

  4. Hi all, is anyone familiar with Antwerp, Belgium and its chocolate offerings? My son is spending a semester at sea this summer through his school (State Univ. of NY Maritime College). One of his ports of call is Antwerp. He said he is willing to go to a chocolate shop, buy some for me and store it in the ship's fridge for safekeeping.

The question is where should he buy it? I have done some googling on Antwerp and chocolate and have found something called the Hans Burie chocolate factory. I don't know if this is a place to send him or not. (He will be using public transport and feet to get around.)

I would really like some top quality chocolate and bon bons as my souvenir. Your thoughts and input are appreciated.

  5. Does Balthazar offer a hanger steak (or "onglet" as they say in most French bistros)?  If I remember correctly their steak frites is a sirloin cut.
Balthazar.  For the price, a darn good steak and awesome frites.

I'm not sure. They have three steak frites things...one is a bar steak which I have no clue what that is, the next is steak frites, which my daughter and friend got and tasted like round maybe, then there is steak au poivre with frites, which may be hanger, and to really splurge...there is the cote du beouf for 2 which is an unfriggingly beliveably good rib steak.

  6. Thanks all for the tips. I called Chambers and they had 32 bottles in stock so I bought them all, should be plenty for our needs. As a wedding gift, I am giving 20 bottles to my sister for her champagne toast and bringing a few more to celebrate with the family on the wedding night.

  7. It all started here a couple years ago, on a thread where I asked about your favorite sparklers. Your advice, collectively, was excellent.

Here is my dilemma... I am looking to buy three cases of the delightful strawberry-tasting sparkler, Renardet Fache Cerdon du Bugey. I live in CT and would prefer to buy it locally. However, I contacted several wine stores who carry Louis Dressner wines... and they said they will look into ordering it for me...then I never hear back from them. When prodded...they say they are working on it. I assume they can't get it.

Does anyone have any recommendations where I could order such a large quantity? If not in CT...do you recommend another merchant that will ship? I used Chelsea Wine Vault in Manhattan before and they were good. Just wondering if there is a better source for a purchase of this magnitude.

    Thanks!

  8. I don't recall Bob & Ken's...never went to Capeway Manor... We lived closer to Easton, and two "fancy" places, if you can call them that, were LePage's Steakhouse--excellent steak which you ordered by the ounce, and the 400 Club, which served continental fare. 400 is gone, don't know if LePage's is still around.
