  1. From what I read in the Riverside website, seems as though their new location just opened up this year. Were they situated somewhere else before? Maybe it's just their head office that they moved. Even though I would understand the basic conversations in french, I will most definately have difficulty in the more advanced terms. I would not want to be confused while the teacher is explaining an important aspect in making the perfect sauce. As good as ITHQ may be, won't you find that if I will be spending half the time trying to figure out what the teacher is saying, I will be not even be able to take the full advantage of this better program? In any case, I will be going to the schools to visit and see the place in person. Thanks again for all the info and support. I greatly appreciate it. Zach: I will take up on your offer, and come have a drink with you soon! Rex: Thanks for the encouragement in my French. I agree with you that my Italian isn't so great, even if I am Chinese!
  2. Thanks again for the info. Unfortunately, my french would not be sufficient enough for me to follow if I attended ITHQ. I also do agree that it is up to a person to make the best of the program. Therefore, I will in any case, take advantage and learn as much as I can from the program that is offered.
  3. Thanks for all your input on this cooking school. Lesley: The schools that you mentioned, are they within the Montreal region? Would you also know if these are also Government funded? Thanks again for all the help.
  4. Hello, Here is my situation: It has always been my dream to be able to go to Culinary School. But when I finally got myself to take action to push myself to apply for it, there were 2 things that prevented me from doing so. First off, I was in the middle of completing my University degree at Concordia. At that point, I said to myself that I might as well finish off what I started. So, I did that, and finally graduated University this Summer. Secondly, the Culinary School that I was looking into attending is the Cordon Bleu in Ottawa. That means that it will cost quite some bit off cash to live there, and on top of that, the tuition fee is well over 18,000$ for the whole program. This is when I felt God gave me a sign. The week after I completed my last course in University, I was going through The Montreal Gazette, (ofcourse my main intention was to read Lesley's review ) and came about to see this brochure by the English Montreal School Board (EMSB), which offers many carreer programs, and one of them was for a Cooking Profession Program. I believe this school is St-Puis X close to the 40 East. Not only is this close to home, the best part of this is that the whole program will be funded by the Government. I have called, and found out that there are still a few spots. Right now, I am waiting for them to see if they can arrange a few things to confirm a spot for me. In other words, I am one step closer in achieving my goal. My question. Have anyone heard or experience anything from the culinary school from this organization? Any suggestions? Or does anyone know of a similar program such as this in Montreal? I would greatly appreciate any opinions I will be given. Thanks. Jason
  5. Thanks for the help! I will let you guys know how it goes!
  6. Thanks for the all the suggestions! So many places, such little time! I believe I will be staying in the french quarter. Besides mister B's Bistro, are all these location far from that area? Or any more suggestions that I should not miss out in that area? Thanks again.
  7. Hi! I am from Montreal, Canada, and will be coming down to New Orleans September for a Cruise trip. I will only have one full day to explore New Orleans good cheap eats! It can be anywhere from a street stand to a sit down restaurant, to something greasy and unhealthy! I only live once right! I find there is nothing more satisfying than to find something that give you the best value for the buck! Any suggestions! Thanks in Advance!
  8. Hey Steve, That was it! I suppose it got your attention too? I have been craving for something unhealthy lately. Thanks for the info!
  9. Don't know who could help me, but I have been going through every post trying to find this suggestion on this "greasy chicken sandwich" that I read awhile ago. I believe he said it was somewhere on St-Laurent, or somewhere close to Park. I don't really recall exactly all the details, but I have been wanting to try it ever since I read it. Does anyone recall reading it? Thanks
  10. Thanks for clarifying it Kareen! I must have been high or something!
  11. Hey Identifiler, I saw one of the KK like installations in the Price Costco at Brossard, but they are nothing like the one in KK. This machine is maybe one meter wide, makes donuts the size of toonies and coated with cinnamon. They are good, but not really the same a KK. Riboflavinjoe, Two boxes of KK is nothing. The first time I went to TO to pick up some KK, we were 4 guys, and bought 18 dozens (18 boxes) to bring back to Montreal. We crazy about it then! But now I can maybe have one, once in awhile!
  12. I don't know if you ever come to the South Shore, but there is this place called Como Pizza! They have one in La Prairie, and one in Candiac. They might have a few in Montreal, but I am not sure about that. But that will be the place that you will find Real full fat cheese, that will drip down your arm all the way down to your elbow! They put tons of pepperoni, cheese, bacon....practically tons of everything! Get the Como special.
  13. Well lately, I couldn't get enough of Berlin. The first time I ever had German food was when I went to Germany 2 years ago, and was craving for it ever since! I finally found Berlin that satisfied my craving. I don't know if you have ever been there, but it's at the corner of Fairmont, and St-Urbain. You got to try the Pork Snitzel.
  14. After the 3rd try, we finally get the restaurant's name Beauty's correct!
  15. Hi, Let me be the first one to congratulate you on your first post! I think the one you might be talking about is Beaties. I think that's the name, not too sure. Every time I pass by that place, their is always a line up too. But, that place is located at Mont-royal and St-Urban. I have only been there once, and it wasn't that bad. I had the Bagel with cream chees, smoked salmon, onions and capers. I think it cost me more or less 10$. But you can have a regular 2 egg breakfast for much less. Hope this helps.
