  1. Nope. Maybe Mastering the Art has some? With it's emphasis on healthy cooking, A New Way To Cook isn't likely to have any liver recipes either. Maybe we could make one up. I LOVE chicken livers.
  2. Nope. Maybe Mastering the Art has some?
  3. We packed up all the Thanksgiving leftovers and banished them to the freezer in the basement. I have loads of apples, so my shopping list has just steaks and celery root on it.
  4. Here is the old thread I started about A New Way To Cook. There are several delicious-sounding recipe suggestions in it.
  5. Another salad? I've had a hankering for salads after all of the rich food this past week. While leafing through ANWTC I found Bitter Greens with Seasonal Fruits and Roasted Nuts, page 417. Sound good, or is that too much fruit in one meal?
  6. Sure sounds good. Care to give it up? I made it up, really. I used the recipe that Brooks posted in this thread, except I used bread cubes instead of crumbs, left out the parmesan and pecans, didn't have any green onions, and added some sauteed andouille cut in half then into thin slices.
  7. Steak Diane, with celery root and apple puree?
  8. Yeah! Give me a couple of days to get over the bug my kids have given me. There's an old thread I started with recipe suggestions from torakris and Matthew, among others. I will poke around tomorrow and find it.
  9. With all the hoopla this week and the sale of our house (we have a contract on our place, and drew up an offer on a new house today), it never got made. Maybe I'll do a leftover turkey risotto this week. I picked up Lidia's Italian Table and A New Way To Cook at the library today for some more inspiration. J & J's Lamb Barley soup is looking good too.
  10. Is it what is sometimes called "red" trout? I broil it, and serve it with lemon, so no fancy suggestions here.

    Dinner! 2003

Little pizzas with assorted toppings: caramelized onions, goat cheese, nicoise olives, artichoke & red pepper tapenades, sausage and mozzerella. 1998 Lan Rioja pulled from the basement collection.
  12. Recipe please? Yorkshire pudding is always on my Christmas menu and that sounds fantastic.
  13. That sounds pretty good - as does the cauliflower gratin. Luckily our kids love cauliflower ("mommy, it's just like white broccoli!").
  14. I'm going to try it. Good! Let me know if you like it. I have two sliced fennel bulbs sitting in my fridge right now, awaiting some inspiration.
  15. I love these things. Yesterday it was extra sharp cheddar and bacon on buttered whole wheat. Mmmmmmmm. Today I made a cuban sandwich. The cubano took 2 cycles on medium to achieve perfection, probably because the roll was unbuttered. The grilled cheese was perfect with only one medium-dark cycle.
  16. Yeah, all of them. I've been drooling over the seafood bread for several years now. This year will be the year I try it. Lamb Barley soup sounds delicious too.
  17. There was some gorgeous looking fennel at the store yesterday. Fennel gratin is delicious. Or you could try this.
  18. The oyster and andouille stuffing was a big hit, as was the salad with goat cheese and dried cranberries.
  19. You're welcome! I'm making it again tomorrow. Tonight we're supposed to have dinner with friends, but I feel like I'm getting the flu so Scott is going without me. If we feel like cooking tomorrow steak would be a good idea. There's a boatload of leftover mashed potatoes to go with it.
  20. Of course. My mom knows all of those dances (graduated high school in 63) and taught them to us, so I know lots of them. Cool stuff. All we had was disco, rollerdisco, and then the Pogo in the '80s. Bleah. What's the next cooking project? I may be done cleaning my kitchen by next Friday and be ready to cook again.

    Cranberry sauce

After you mentioned this compote on the Thanksgiving menu thread, I went searching for recipes calling for dried cherries (I had a lot in my pantry). Anyway, this is the recipe I ended up making. I couldn't find cherry cider, so I used a mixture of apple cider and pomagranate-mango juice. It was out of this world. Thanks for the inspiration. You're welcome! This year Scott bought the cherries and came home with sweet instead of tart (despite my explicit instructions ), so instead of cherry cider I used a tart cherry juice. It turned out ok. It's the addition of cloves that makes it so good.
  22. And it was, except for the unfortunate, yet obligatory, political discussion. I think Master Gee needs to learn the Watusi.
  23. Oh. My. I wish I had seen that. First, I'd only want to see the G-man do the mashed potato if I were doing it with him!! The mind boggles.

  25. We had waaaay too much food. I hope we can plow through the leftovers before they go bad. Salad of mixed baby greens with thinly sliced red onion, dried cranberries, crumbled goat cheese, and candied spiced pecans, with a dressing of EVOO, red wine vinegar, dijon, and fresh thyme. It was delicious and my favorite part of the whole meal. I will absolutely make this again. Deep fried turkey. The skin was much better than the bird. It could have been brined longer but was definitely juicier than oven roasted. Deep frying had the added irritant of keeping Scott standing in the driveway for an hour or so, instead of available to help with side dishes. Mashed potatoes - soupy. Store bought gravy. It was from a local gourmet carry out My sister-in-law's sweet potato casserole with walnuts. Lemon glazed brussles sprouts - slightly overcooked but still tasty. Got the recipe from epicurious.com. Apple/sausage/giblet stuffing and oyster/andouille stuffing, both very tasty. Toasted two whole loaves of bread to make the bread cubes. Caramelized, cream glazed pearl onions. Cranberry & dried cherry compote with cloves. Pumpkin and pecans pies, and a Greek apple cake made by my SIL. Served with whipped cream. We drank a '97 Rabbit Ridge Merlot with our dinner. Not a bad meal. There are several things that could have been better, starting with the planning. I will be planning Christmas dinner a little more carefully. Happy Thanksgiving! Edit: With better planning I wouldn't have had to prep 2 lbs of pearl onions, 2 lbs of brussels sprouts, two loaves worth of bread cubes, and peel 3 lbs of potatoes...
