I am almost through a bottle of Bacardi Anejo and I think it is pretty good stuff. Especially when considering the price. Too bad it isn't as readily available as all of the other Bacardi products...

Thanks for the link. I have seen those before. I can get the general idea of what they say. The 3 opinions are a bit split. They also refer to another type of Cacique (Cacique Anejo is my bet) which I have not had either, so their comparisons to it mean little to me. Salud, Garcia21

A coworker brought me a bottle of Ron Cacique 500 from a friend in Chile. I haven't seen this brand for sale in the U.S. anywhere I've looked so far, including the internet. Has anyone tasted it? If so, what are your impressions? Thanks, Garcia21

Samswine.com has Pyrat X.O. for $30 +shipping and I forgot, you do get 2 times as much as in a bottle of Pistol. I haven't tried X.O. yet, but am looking forward to it. Salud

Bolivar Petit Corona, I am beginning to see what you mean. It does taste good but it lingers. I will try what you suggest and see what happens. I am now leaning more toward it is good. But maybe not worth the price tag at $23 for 375ml. I find I like it better on the rocks as opposed to neat. Salud

I opened my bottle of Pyrat Pistol on Friday and after tasting it a few times this past weekend I think it is very good. Amateur Notes: It smells like gumdingers (a candy which is gum in the center and like a cherry lollipop on the outside, but no stick). The inital taste is like gumdingers as well, sweet. While the finish is woody, nutty, and pepper(dry), in that order. Not too harsh and no strong alcohol taste. Overall smooth with a dry finish. What does everyone else think of this rum? I opened a bottle of Pusser's Royal Navy Rum (Blue Label). And after a couple times trying it to be fair and even mixing it with coke, I find it to be pretty bad. Is it possible that I got a bad bottle? I am surprised to find a rum that I am honestly thinking of dumping out. Seems a waste of $20. If you have tasted this rum please share your opinions with me. I find that it is plenty smooth, but the smell is bad and the aftertaste is like soggy driftwood. Salud, Patrick

Today in the mail I received a package from my Uncle in Puerto Rico. It contained a bottle of Ron Del Barrilito 3 Estrellas, some street vendor pork rinds and some Pan Pacheco, which is a local bread. He had promised to send me a bottle last July when he visited. Better late than never. What a great gift! I look forward to sipping the family favorite. I am definitely going to have to send him a thank you note! Salud, Patrick

I visited a local liquor store a couple days ago and they wanted $28.99 USD for a 750 ml bottle of Appleton V/X! I just go to a different shop about 5 or 6 miles away that has it for $18.99. It pays to shop around... Salud, Patrick

Last night to celebrate New Years. It was Fantastic! So smooth. Coyopa was the only thing I had to compare it to at the time and the Single Barrel is better. Has some non-rum drinkers taste it and it turned a few heads. I can't wait to try the Zacapa Centenario and El Dorado Special Reserve I bought too. Happy New Year!!! Patrick

Yes, I found Ron Veijo De Caldas (colombia) in a local grocery store here in Iowa, USA. I paid $16 and I didn't enjoy it(I did drink the whole bottle to be fair). Now I can say I've tried it and that's enough. Salud, Patrick

I got a bottle of Coyopa for Christmas this year and found it quite enjoyable neat. I think it was about $43 US. Please understand my rum tasting is limited to about 25 different rums. The best being; Barbancourt Estate Reserve Coyopa Barrilito 3 estrellas Salud, Patrick

Until my fiance brought me a bottle of Appleton Estate V/X from her cruise in Feb this year. I had been drinking Bacardi Select, Gold, and the occasional bottle of Don Q Oro and Barrilito 3 estrellas that relatives might bring from Puerto Rico. Barrilito 3 star was my favorite for a long time. And a rare treat. I have spent the last year getting caught up on all the rums available in your typical grocery stores here in Iowa, USA. For Christmas, my father bought me a bottle of Coyopa which I quite enjoy and for the first time, since barrilito, am able to enjoy neat. He also bought himself a bottle of Barbancourt Estate Reserve 15yrs which I was able to enjoy in the same manner. I found the Barbancourt to be a little smoother while the Coyopa had a little more punch in the aftertaste. Both were delightful. Here are my top 5 of about the 25 I have tasted(most of them were less than $20 US, and available locally) Barbancourt Estate Reserve Coyopa Barrilito 3 star Appleton Extra 12yrs Bacardi 8 anos I prefer dark rum, anyone have any suggestions based on the rums above? I noticed the bottle change as well. I like the look of the old bottle better. Regardless, my Dad has one of the old and a friend of mine has one of the new. It tastes like the same stuff to me. Too sweet... Patrick
