    Beef

Liza, I've been buying meat from lobels on special occasions for over 3 years now. I was recently sent a newsletter stating they are now carrying Wagyu beef. I take it by your bank comment you havent tried it yet? I'm curious to give it a shot myself but wow if lobels meat wasnt expensive enough already, now theyve got wagyu. If you try it be sure to post back so I can read your comments. Thanks.
  2. Rosie, Do you know if Epernay still prepares the cote de boeuf for 2 on Thursdays? Sounds yummy Not sure if this menu item is seasonal or not. Thanks so much for the help.
  3. I was just joking with you Rosie. Rail Paul www.nj.com. Has a ton of information about NJ. Has a search to search all the local papers in NJ as well. I use it daily for real eastate searches.
  4. I read that article on nj.com as well today Rail Paul. I didnt want to post about it here though for fear as Rosie might get mad at me
  5. I read an article this past weekend that Morton's Steakhouse is getting close to opening. They are having an open house hiring for all positions this week. Not sure of the exact location, I think the article said Paramus (Riverside Square). I'm not a huge Morton's Steakhouse fan myself but want to let others know.
  6. Stop 201. You're causing me to have flashbacks of my philosophy-logic classes way back when I was at college.
  7. I agree that the food is quite good but never noisy or very crowded? I admit I have only been there on the weekends but it has always been very CROWDED. Tables are right on top of each other. One time when we sat on the left side of the restaurant they actually put the wine bucket on the floor because there was no room for a stand. I prefer Scalini Fedeli, which is 10 minutes down the road in Chatham, over Il Mondo. Scalini Fedeli is bring your own, like Il Mondo, and is price fixed I think around 50 dollars (an extra supplement for some items). The 50 price tag may be a little expensive but is well worth it and you will not be hungry after you leave. Includes fabulous bread assortment, pre-dinner app, app, entree, sorbet after dinner before dessert, tray of various cookies, chocolate covered strawberries, dessert and coffee. At least 15 choices for apps and entrees, smaller selection for the desserts including a cheese selection or chocolate soufflé, all are excellent. It's one of our favorites but reservations are tough to come by. We usually make them wayyyyyyyyyy in advance, especially for a coveted weekend spot. It’s one of the gems in NJ.
  8. One of my co-workers told me about a place in Jackson that serves a 2 pound burger Honestly, I cannot vouch for this persons standards when it comes to food, LOL. He said it's not bad but could not be more descriptive than that. He did say the place is a real hole in the wall and a biker hangout. So if you're feeling adventurous and are in the area figure I'd throw it out there for you. CASSVILLE TAVERN Rte. 571 & 528, Jackson
  9. Rosie and others, I read over on nj.com about a new BBQ place in Madison called Pop's on Lincoln Place. Apparently the chef used to work for Emerils? Curious if anyone has any information regarding this place. Thanks.
  10. Another one of those rare occasions when I completely agree with Tommy
  11. Do not want to start a war here....... I don’t doubt the fact that liquor licenses cost a great deal of money but does that cost justify the outrageous cost of the markups? Some restaurants go as far as 300% markups, this is almost criminal. Not to mention oddly enough, the highest markups are on the cheaper bottles. Why not offer the wine at a better price point and try to make up the loss of the markup with volume. I work hard for my money and am sickened at some of the prices I see on restaurant wine lists. When the cost of the liquor license is made up do restaurants lower their liquor prices? I think not. Why should I spend 80 dollars for a 25 dollar bottle of wine? Everyone knows that alcohol contributes a disproportionately large percentage of a restaurant's profits. Scalini Fedeli offers exceptional wine service for a BYOB restaurant. We always bring multiple bottles of red/white when we go and the wine service has always been excellent. Other BYOB’s I know of pull out the Reidel stemware. I admit I have had experiences at the other end of the spectrum, one time even having to open the bottle of wine myself because of a nervous waitperson. But I'll sacrifice shoddy beverage service for cost savings any day. Call me cheap I guess, just my lousy 2 cents worth.
  12. I believe people have forgotten the thread topic Listen, I agree Fudruckers is not the best burger around. But like I said, for a chain restaurant they are not bad. It also meets the thread topic of offering burgers up to a full pound in size. I survived on them through college down in FL, would practically make salads out of the fixins bar. Hey, you got to do what you have to do to survive, money was tough to come by for me in those days.
  13. If it’s size you’re interested in than try Fuddruckers. They have burgers ranging in size from 1/3 lb. up to a full 1 lb. burger. They might not be the BEST burger around but if it’s size you crave Fuddruckers isn’t all that bad for a chain establishment.
  14. Taking the seastreak ferry (from south amboy) to see the NY fireworks, it anchors near Manhattan. Allowed to bring food on board. Don't have to deal with the NY crowds and get one of the best views for the fireworks show. Never done it before. Hope its fun.
  15. Thanks jaybee, I did search first and found the earlier thread about butter but most of the responses were related to NY stores. I visit Citarella once a month for fresh tuna so if I cant find it in NJ I can get it there. Thanks for the advice PaulaJ...I do appreciate it.
  16. Ok, so I must admit I've never really been much of a butter fanatic. But....A couple of weeks ago I watched Gordon Elliott’s Follow That Food (Don’t hate me - please ) and the food was French butter. Wow, did that get me interested. I’m dying to try some of that French butter. I’m thinking about sautéing up a bunch of small sized, lobster tails with it. Or slathering it up on some good bread. Does anyone have any ideas of where to buy French butter in NJ, in particular the one that was on the show L'Isigny Sainte-Mere? Maybe Wegmans? I'll take any other recommendations for extraordinary butter and a NJ store, which carries it. Possibly help from Steve Klc as with his pastry expertise I am sure he could recommend some good ones. Thanks all for the help.
  17. That's disappointing to hear Rosie. I was looking forward to trying Muse but may rethink that decision. I have been going to The Greek Store in Kenilworth for over 10 years now. I love it, friendly service and family run. Although frozen, their mousaka and spanakopita are great. Great selection of other frozen greek dishes, 20 different olive selections, cheeses - at least 4 different selections of Feta, canned goods, herbs - greek oregano on the vine, greek wines, desserts and dips - especially their Tzatziki. They have a web site, http://www.eatgreek.com/. Except for when I went to Greece, the best Greek restaurants I have been to have been in Queens. I'm still waiting for a great one to open up in NJ...
  18. Who made you in charge of ending threads? You know the owner by name? Your first post? I take your comments with a bit of skepticism. But I am glad you enjoyed the restaurant. I will be trying it out myself in the near future.
  19. Dodge621, I think the food is consistent among their 3 locations. The Mahwah location is the most upscale of the 3 and focus a lot on presentation. Plus, they have a fireplace room and the restaurant is definitely for lack of a better word the prettiest of them all. We prefer the edgewater location because of its "vibrant atmosphere". Not sure how this has changed with its expansion. We plan on going within the next week so we'll see how it turned out.
  20. Rosie, I'm going in the next week or 2 so I'll let you know how it looks.
  21. I am sure Rosie knows for sure but I think they are brothers.
  22. RPerlow have you been to Scalini Fedeli? If you think Il Mondo Vecchio is excellent give Scalini a try. In my humble, non-expert opinion I think Scalini is better than Il Mondo. Scalini Fedeli is bring your own and is price fixed I think around 50 dollars (an extra supplement for some items). Give it a try lorib, I know you will love it. It’s one of the gems in NJ.
  23. I know you stated they'd be in Bay Head so it's probably too far a drive but they could always do The Fromagerie in Rumson which is about 20 miles away.
