  1. You also might want to get one of those 20% off coupons from Bed, Bath and Beyond too. BB&B honors that coupon on all items (even the ones that are printed as exempt from the off at the bottom). They also take expired coupons too! Good luck! I love my Kitchenaid!
  2. What's next? The seas turning red? Swarms of locusts??
  3. I hope so! We've been going there so some time now! He once sat down with me and my husband and asked who made the better pie, him or the other chef Mark. I told him that's like answering the question that his girlfriend would ask, "Am I prettier than she is?"......needless to say, I didn't answer the question. Although, Mark is really good with rubbing a LOT of garlic on the crust....it's DAMN good! I'm also happy to hear that Adam is doing great, I was torn about telling people about that place....we didn't want the place to go under, but then again....we didn't have to wait for a table!

Rich, I cannot thank you enough! I didn't think that the altitude was going to be a problem, thanks for reminding me! Thanks for the great suggestions on places to eat, I was going to get some ideas of places from this board. Is it best to stay at the host hotel? Thanks!

Hi Pete!! It's in Denver every year. This is the big 'daddy' of beer festivals here in the US. This is the festival where all the breweries bring in the good beers to be judged for metals. It's September 25-27.....144,000 sq ft of beer heaven! 320 different breweries......1400 different kinds of beers! From what I hear all breweries are only allowed to bring in a controlled amount of kegs. This is done so the big, crappy breweries can't dominate the entire show. Although I did see Miller and Plank Road brewery as participants.....do they actually think that beer drinkers are that dumb? Here's the link http://www.beertown.com/events/gabf/participating.htm Cheers!

I've got my ticket.....and I'm working on getting some brewmaster tickets too. Has anybody been to the Great American Beer Festival? Any pointers for a first timer? Cheers!
  7. Hi all! I've been in search of good pie ever since I've moved to Austin 8 years ago. I've even had pizza's Fed-ex'd down from the Chicagoland area. Hey, sometimes a girl needs her butter crust!! I stumbled across this great place for pizza a few months ago called Rounders. It's on west 6th street just west of Blanco (it's more west of Z-Tejas). If you're a fan of thin crust east coast style pizza, you've gotta try this place out!! The bigger pizza pulls better, but the smaller Casino size is great for 3 people. If you'd also like a treat, get a calzone. It's one of the best that I've tasted in the area! Just a warning for you anchovy lovers, they place them on the pizza in a freaky line style down the center of the pizza......not what I would choose to do, but that's how it's done there. Has anybody else been to Rounders? I can't go on without going at least once a week now! Cheers!
  8. Shouldn't it be called happy hours? What time did you leave? I'll have to pop in there after or before seeing Rosmary's Baby next week at the Paramount!

    Wink

We went to Zoot a while back (also owned by the same folks that own Wink) and I went ga-ga for the El Rey Chocolate dessert!
  10. Maggiethecat, you are too fast! I'm originally from Milwaukee but transplanted to Austin. We're in Michigan City to visit family. I dragged 2 people into the city with me, little did they know what was in store for them!! I've got another question for you, have you tried any informal cooking classes in town? If so, is it worth it?? Or have you heard of any that are good? I think that we'll be up here again next year. Lou's is now at the top of the list for me as far as deep dish!!
  11. Awbrig, THANK YOU so very much for posting about Lou Manati's. I *finally* made it to the one on Wells earlier this week. I have to admit that the thought of putting butter in pizza crust sounded quite crazy to me! It was so tastey! The consistancy was suprizing to me too, a yummy butter hint in each taste! I think that my sister in law and husband got sick of me sayin' "Are you going to finish your crust?" Spalding, you'll get nothing and like it!! Thanks again!
  12. Steven, Try 'The Celler' off of Bee Caves (3520 Bee Caves Rd # B). It's in by the Belgium Resteraunt. They were the only ones in Austin that could get me a case of Kistler. If they don't have it, they'll most likely be able to get it. Good luck! Cheers!
