  1. I stopped into Bound Brook for lunch, my first AHD experience. Kudos for cleanliness, the place is spotless, which is a MAJOR step up from the local hot dog joints down here in Somerset county. That alone will have me coming back. The dog was good- I went with a classic with relish and mustard. defintely a meal all by itself and I like the heavy spice. I stayed away from the specialties on my first trip so I could get a feel for the dog alone. The fries were very good, sizzling hot. I may have missed it, but is vinegar available for them? My only drawback- I just don't get potato rolls. Too heavy a texture and sweet flavor for me, and I grew up in PA and even lived in Chambersburg (The holy city of Potato rolls) for almost a year. Service was great, store was crowded but not jammed. Hopefully business will be solid there for years to come.
  2. Sweet- The only thing better would be on Route 22 but that location on 28 is very central. I know where we're hitting for dinner after our trips to Effinger's. The light by ShopRite stinks though. Very congested. Nice to have an alternative to the Plainfieldstyle dogs at Texas Weiner in Green Brook. You should kick butt at lunch time. Get a Costa Rican dog on the menu. Wouldn't it be great to get an Amazin' at the ballgame? You can't get much closer- maybe it's time for some emails to the Patriots.
  3. I stopped in here last week for lunch, found parking right on the street in front. Inferno- Awesome. Not uneatable hot, but hot enough to make you take notice. 5 sausage- very good, not as much lime as I was expecting. Hit was the homemade brown sugar cane lemonade. I'll be back.

    Yocco's

Top sliced rolls are always in stock at the Wegman's near me in Central Jersey. Don't know about other Wegman's locations. My kid's love the "wonder bread" feel to them. My little guy even eats his peanut butter with them.
  5. It's been about 12 years or so since I've lived in the area but the Glass Lounge on Front St north of the city had Great Steaks, I mean great. It's a local bar type place- definitely not fine dining but the Steaks were out of this world. Don't know if they are still there or not.

It's that time of year again! Have had Buffalo Bill's, Smuttynose, and Post Road. once again this year BB's leads in my book!
  7. http://www.s-t.com/daily/02-98/02-18-98/b02ho059.htm Interesting article on them.

    New in town

Arthurs Tavern in Morris Plains is a great place for a pint of Guiness and a steak. Noisy old time bar room but never had a bad steak there. cash only I believe. Parking lot in back.
  9. Harpoon Winter Warmer is all over the place here in central jersey so you should be able to find it in NYC. Super Saver Liquors on Rt 22 in Somerville has Magnum Size bottles of Anchor Steam christmas ale. Never seen that before.

    Mass produced lagers

Back in the late 80's 4 of us did a blind taste test with Bud,Miller,MGD and Old Milwaukee. All 4 of us picked Old Milwaukee as the best. Go figure.

    Pumpkin Ales

I tried Blue Moon, Buffalo Bill's, Post Road, and Smuttynose this weekend. without question Buffalo Bills is the most flavorful. Anyone have any reccomendations on Pumpkin Ales in their neck of the woods?
  13. I finally did stop, got the standard fish and chips. It was ok, nothing remarkable. Would probably go back if I was in the mood for it and in the area but certainly not a destination type place for the food. I think after about 5 years of driving by every so often I just needed to check it out.
  14. The chicken at Davids Roasters is ok at best, but they do offer a great variety of sides. Kind of an independent Boston Market.
  15. Any trip to Clearfield is worth the ride north into the woods to Straub's in St Marys. I was there about 7 years ago, my own personal tour and a nice free flowing tap. You have to like a place that allows you to climb up a ladder to peer down into the open topped fermenting vats. The guide did tell me to remove my hat lest it fall in.
  16. Stopped into the route 27 market today. It is carbon copy of the flemington one except the flemington market is newer and less crowded. Even recognized some of the same vendors. Must be run by the same family.
  17. Wegmans in Bridgewater jsut opened a wine and spirits shop. can't speak for the wine but the beer selection is very good for Belgians. Prices seem up and down on the beer, higherfor some and cheaper for others.
  18. There is also one in Flemington right behind the Shoprite. Open Thu,fri, sat.
  19. There are two good size ones on Rt 22 in the N Plaiinfield-watchung area. I also know there is a small one in downtown Somerville.
  20. Sounds like Landjeager. Where in Jersey do you live? Lutz's in Union has the best in my opinion. I believe they provide Stech's deli in Bridgewater with a supply also.
  21. I made my first trip to Rutt's today and I also found their dogs mushy and not that great. I will admit the relish was very good and the atmosphere was great but can't say as I will return.
  22. Wegman's this past summer actually had a traveling road show cooking burgers to customers spec's (med rare etc") to show off their beef. I used it several times on the grill as I am a "run the cow by the fire to warm it up" burger guy. I'll take my chances on the cancer vs ecoli as I eat the irradiated maybe once a month if that.
  23. Anyone have any feedback on this place? I've driven by many times but never stopped. I have a craving for fish and chips and thought I would try it.
  24. I occasionally shop the Kings in Whitehouse. ShopRite in Branchburg is a much beter experience. Kings is weak out here in Somerset-Hunterdon.
  25. Manville is filled with Polish stores and deli's.
