  1. Thanks rjs 1 for the suggestions. Also Jaymes thanks for the link but most of the info there is not current. Anyone else eaten recently (last six months) in Cannes?
  2. Took your suggestion and did a search. All I got was the thread I started. What is the right way to do a search? I entered 'cannes restaurants' in the search box.
  3. Just found out La Palme d'Or will be closed when I am there (Feb 19-22).
  4. Can anyone recommend a good restaurant in Cannes? Next week, I will be staying at the Martinez, so La Palme d'Or is a possibility. I've eaten at La Mère Besson and don't see a reason to go back there.
  5. I was in the UK during their mad cow crisis and the only beef available in restaurants was from Argentina or Uruguay. I had a Uruguayan rib-eye at that time. It was good but no better than Canadian beef. I have had Argentinian beef in Canada and was not impressed. I had a British rib-eye in London in 2005 and it was superb.
  6. Considering how far the fishing grounds are from the population centres in BC, FAS is the only way to go. I always get a laugh watching the punters buy 'fresh' fish off the boats in Steveston.
  7. Try La Brasserie after 8:30. It seems to empty around then. La Brasserie (7pm standing room only, 7:30 seated, 9:30 last table in the place) Cibo La Terrazza
  8. Are you sure you will be staying in Surrey? There is no Marriott in Surrey according to their web-site.
  9. scoutmagazine.ca up and running November 6.
  10. I remember eating a delicious spicy tartare in an Ethiopian restaurant in Paris in the early '80s. The tartare was a bright red and I think the meat was minced flank steak. I think the restaurant was in the 14th or 15th. We did not eat with our fingers but with cutlery. The decor was bright and modern, not at all traditional. Does anybody remember this restaurant and know what happened to it or whether it is still open?
  11. For great Italian only 3 blocks from the Wall Centre there is Cibo in the Moda Hotel at 900 Seymour St (604-602-9570).
  12. La Manzanita in Powell River is a small restaurant in the old court house at the original townsite. The room is bright with many south-facing windows. I ate there a month ago and had good service and excellent roasted chicken with the best green asparagus I have ever had. The owner is from San Francisco and knows her food.
  13. Moreno Miotto has left Canada for Italy. He has no connection to any of the restaurants he used to own in PG. I ate at North 54 a month ago. It is expensive even by Vancouver standards. The food is mediocre and the service inattentive.
