    Dinner! 2008

My mother's birthday was on January 10th so my sister and I decided to do an Iron Chef style competition to see who is the better cook. I regret not taking pictures, my dishes were gorgeous. Salad Battle: Goat Cheese, & Tomato salad with a prosciutto crisp and a toast point Tomatos tossed in chilli oil, mustard, olive oil, salt, and pepper over a strip of fried prosciutto and a toast point. Starch: Spaghetti Carbonara. Garlic, prosciutto, and cracked black pepper tossed with the egg-yolk and pasta. Protein: Mushroom cream sauce & giant tiger prawns. Poached prawns on a sauce of slow-cooked mushrooms for over the course of 2 hours creating an intense mushroom flavor then bound with a sauce. I won, my sister was embarassed. The store-bought cake was awful, the end. ----------- Pasta of what was lying around the house. Shrimp, marinated pork, spaghetti, carrots, olive oil, jalapenos, shallots, garlic, and some soy sauce.

    Prime Rib

sear. roast. sear. kill bacteria, cook perfectly, and get some carmelized goodness. different? yea. i remember searing then roasting but didn't cook it well enough and decided to just pretend it was a regular steak, pan-seared it again and it was perfect for me atleast.
  3. This morning I recruited a friend for a semi-blind test. I washed one orange and didn't wash another. I cut them both into sections. Then I had him hand me sections of each orange without telling me which was which. I ate the meat out of the sections and was able to identify washed and unwashed with 100% accuracy over 8 instances. ← but that could be caused by ther oranges already tasting different. sometimes, when i get oranges some will be a lot less sweet than others and if i'm lucky i get an insanely sour one.
  4. for a chinese version, you could use chinese sausage or char-sui barbeque'd pork, shredded carrots, peas. cheese, could be one with a muted flavor profile or a spicy cheese.
