  1. no other type of worker has to decide whether or not to take a job based on the air quality of the job site (when it's not directly related to the nature of the work). i don't see why bar employees should be any different.
  2. don't forget the workers.
  3. and you'll certainly provide a source of reliable statistics, summarizing pre-ban profits and post-ban profits, rather than just saying "look at NYC".
  4. I think it's probably traffic from Grand Ave. using Route 46 as a Turnpike onramp. ← you can certainly think that, but you still wouldn't be accurate. here's a tip for anyone heading east on 46: take the broad ave exit for the u-turn, not the grand ave exit. at least during this phase of the construction.
  5. Both restaurants focus on Mexican food. Chef Sanchez is the son of Zarela Martínez. Mr. Bruni reviews both in his article. "Essentially unrelated" isn't the term that comes to mind. ← well yeah since bruni wrote about both in a review sure.
  6. i do not recall any turnpike merging traffic heading westbound on 46 before china 46. however, they are doing construction on the bridge directly after china 46 which has somewhat complicated the flow of traffic. complicated in a good way, as people slow down, so there's little chance of flying right past china 46.
  7. 1 thread for 2 essentially unrelated restaurants?
  8. daniel, i'm very impressed with the way the restaurant handled this. speaks volumes, as you suggest.
  9. not for nuttin', anonymouze, but yer hijackin my thread.
  10. i think the owner reads and checks the NJ forum here. i wouldn't be surprised if Daniel was somehow contacted.
  11. the "decor" at the kirker was in, out, in, and out again before they even noticed. if the burger is notable, though, i'll give it a shot. passaic recs are fine, especially if they're in the northern part. i'm still allowed in Passaic, as far as i know. certain parts of Hudson probably don't want to see me, however. the Franklin Steakhouse is my go-to place for a burger and beer, but they're always so crowded. i have a feeling that the guy is already rolling in cash, but someone should approach him about opening another 2 or 3. i returned to the Napa Valley Grill(e?). this time the burger was just OK. but, the burger, coupled with the wine, which is served it appropriate temps, is enough to get me to return.
  12. as far as i know, Chef Michael Coury's newest restaurant, Circa, is open. Michael is an amazing talent who was most recently at hoboken's Jefferson. this new venture is less italian and perhaps more french bistro, but with some italian overtones, from what i understand. unfortunately it's an hour from my home so i've not had the chance to get out there. nj.com's high bridge forum has some scattered discussion of questionable quality: http://www.nj.com/forums/highbridge/
  13. bingo. had a very acceptable burger at NVG. this might turn into my go-to place for a burger and red wine. thanks for the tip. i stopped at shortway's for some drinks the other night. a pleasant enough place, but it doesn't look like the type of place i'd eat at. nice big bar, though.
  14. their website makes claims of "Nuvo-American Cuisine". it also contains various instances of questionable punctuation and wording. while i applaud businesses for having a web presence, i have to wonder why so many clearly do not hire a professional copywriter and design firm.
  15. congrats to Jeff Fortunato, Anthony LoPinto and staff for receiving a well-deserved 3 star review in what i assume is the Bergen Record. review here.
  16. boulevard grill is BYO, according to their website.
  17. You dont want to go ANYWHERE near this place. Check the health checks thread..you will see why. Also, I know people who have gone there and they said it was horrid. ← i take it you've never been there? shortway's has always intrigued me. now it's on the list!
  18. uhhhh, yeah. anyone been to victor's in maywood? verbena in hasbrouck heights?
  19. T, that sounds excellent. i had no idea this place existed. info on ardore: http://ardore.com/listing.asp?r=roxannes02&c=Bergen&m=c&u=
  20. it's top-notch. not something i'd want to order more than once a month, but excellent. i had half for lunch and half for dinner the next day.
  21. curlz, who makes those great wine glasses they have?
  22. where? what's wrong with bergen county? why can't i find a decent bar/restaurant with decent food and a decent martini? i've had to resort to Arthur's in Emerson, which is just only so good. ABG has gone downhill. The Office in Ridgewood. c'mon. Smith Brothers in Ridgewood is horrible. The Inn in Glen Rock is tiny and horrible. if i could take the Blue Smoke model and make it happen in bergen i'd be a happy guy. probably a rich one too. i can understand that there's maybe not that big of a demand for a decent restaurant with a bar in bergen, but isn't there *something*?!?! what gives? any suggestions?
  23. i think you're missing the point. unless you're being facetious. in the case of the former, i'll only suggest that many people who visit/read/post on the NJ forum, and who are interested in restaurants directly over its border, couldn't give a bit less about the rest of the society, or the NY forum for that matter. they just don't read it. therefore there's value added in discussion of those restaurants that are closer to NJ than to NYC, but just over the NY state border, on the NJ forum. but what do i know.
  24. you might want to post this question on the NJ board. a lot more people who live in NJ and read the NJ know about restaurants right north of the NJ border than do those who live in/read the NY board, which seems primarly manhattan-centric. or at least NYC boro-centric.
  25. perhaps people are busy reading those blogs and haven't seen this thread. or perhaps they are busy starting one of their own.
