  1. Unfortunately, I hadn't known about this place before reading this thread last week, but fortunately, I read the thread, and made it to the Kolachy Shop on Saturday.

It was late in the day, but we had a Western breakfast kolachy, a spinach and feta, and a poppyseed.

They were all very good, and I just wish there was a place in Seattle to get these--I'd be there regularly!

  2. While not at the Richmond Night Market, there is a decent rendition of okonomiyaki available at Modern Club on Dunbar.

    Cheers!

Wow, from the pictures on their site it does look like real okonomiyaki. Can't wait to try this place out. Thanks for making my day .

Went on Saturday and had the okonomiyaki at Modern Club, thanks to the suggestion here. It was the first time we've had this since being in Japan a couple of years ago. We had the "mixed" and it was pretty good. We also had onigiri, potato salad, and gyoza, so by the time we got to the Richmond Market, we were already pretty full. We didn't really know what to expect, as it was our first time there.

However, we still managed to pack in between the two of us:

1 bubble waffle (I really liked this--I grew up on sweet rice cakes, so I'm a sucker for sweet rice desserts)

1 car wheel cake with custard

    1 red bean fishy waffle

    1 skewer candied strawberries

1 order shanghai pork buns (disappointing and soggy)

3 cinnamon sugar pancakes (started with one, but man are these addicting, went to get another one but hubby said he wouldn't share, so we ended up with two more)

    1 coconut bubble tea

Really wanted to try the takoyaki, but just couldn't fit it in. Next time.

  3. We stayed at the The Inn at Blackberry Creek. It's a B&B, if you like that kind of thing. We enjoyed our stay there, and the owner was quite nice. She doesn't live in the home where the rooms are rented, so it is just the guests. And she keeps the freezer stocked with pints of ice cream and choc chip cookies on the table for late night munching. She also told us the name of a taco wagon that everybody goes to (sorry don't remember the name).

  4. It's my understanding (thanks, mamster!) that the entire staff has gone to China and VietNam for a holiday.  Maybe they'll bring back some cool new recipes.

Oh, this is too bad... After reading all the posts about this place, I have been meaning to go there for a while, and had finally scheduled with a friend to go up there this week...looks like that will have to wait! (glad I lurk around here and found out, though, rather than getting up there and being disappointed)

  5. I must preface this with the fact that I haven't actually had pizza in NY. However, I tried this place out after seeing this post, and have been there several times since. The pizza is good, the white pizza is fantastic. And the cannoli is good--Tony doesn't assemble it until you order it, and the ricotta is perfectly sweetened (meaning not too sweet). I'm sure this will be a regular stop for us.

I can attest that this ex NYer thinks this is the best NY style Pizza in the Seattle area.  You won't get fancy toppings here.  No Thai Chicken, figs or egads-pineapple.    This is primarily a take out place though they do have a few booths.

Hard to find-It's set back off the road a bit....But well worth the effort.

The stretch between Woodinville and Snohomish is still technically "Seattle area", I hope...

Up here, on Highway 9, there's a tiny little shop named "#1 NY Pizza". It's run by Tony and Relita, a retired couple from Queens. They make the best crisp chewy crust, nice and thin. It's outstanding and real NY style pizza. Calzones and egg creams, too. I really wish I had a photo to attach. :)

Take a little trip out north some weekend and give them a shot. I don't think you'll be dissapointed.
