  1. And so begins the great tug of war... My family wishes to be a major part of my graduation (and they should be, they're family, and what's more, they've paid for my education.) My very capable, though at times zealous family has their own ideas of how they'd like to celebrate the event, and I have my own. I've resolved to try planning ahead of time in an effort to try to combine everyone's ideas into a reasonable compromise. The idea is to have an all inclusive party, family and friends. I had an epiphany of a theme, "Bollywood Nights." I'm thinking Indian food, I'm thinking Indian decor, Hindi music, even saris. What sort of foods should I include? What decor, or even customs should I include to give the party a really good feel? Any fun suggestions or personal experiences that might be helpful? Thanks all!
  2. Greetings all, I've managed to paint myself into a corner in my French class, so I shall default to kissing ass and using food to help insure that yours trully is able to get out the grade needed to progress to the next level. (Admittedly, it's all my fault, and hopefully, my mother doesn't read this. If she does, ignore the first part and uh, the teacher hates me, and it's all her fault.) Anyway, I was thinking a galette or something of the like, something DEFINITELY French... baking is my forte, and I was hoping someone here might have a recipe that isn't too extreme (example: eclairs,) that I could accomplish with an evening's worth of baking, and a max of $50 worth of budgetting. Besides that, the sky is the limit, as long as it's something I can say it is French cooking. Thanks for the help, J
  3. Greetings all, this is my first post, so forgive me if I'm not posting in the correct forum and point me in the right direction! I had an odd idea for a party, and I'm looking for menu ideas! Food on a stick. Any suggestions? So far I've thought of fondue, corn dogs, and tooth picking assorted cheeses and fruits--all good tasting things, but I want something FUN and DIFFERENT! Even a twist, doing something deconstructed would be really cool, I'm willing to try anything, so please, feel free to be as creative as you like! Now the stipulations include it has to be eaten on a stick, any kind of stick (tooth pick, skewer, etc.), and it should be on the inexpensive side because I am a college student who lives by the good graces of my parents (one being eGullet user Kim Shook) and working a min. wage paying job. Also something that might be easily prepared would be helpful. Thanks for the thoughts!
