I am student and do not have that much money to blow on courses. Would I better advised buying about like Pépin's one to improve on my technique or are these courses that much better?

I was actually at Le moine échanson last Sunday. I had been studying all day and needed to take a little break. So I ventured to the Old City to try out this place. I was very satisfied. It started with a leek and turnip soup with a goat "foam" cheese topping. It was earthy and a perfect starter for me, as it is very chilly outside. It was followed with a tartelette de boudin noir with red peppers, portobello mushrooms, cassis cream and a salad on the side. It was paired with a glass of 2004 Michaud Tourain cuvée Ad Vitam. With taxes, it ran me about 27 dollars, which is quite reasonnable. Being a student, I can't afford much dinners like these at the moment, unfortunately. The andouillette à l'ivrogne sounded very interesting too.The service is warm, friendly and attentive. The place was very quiet, but that has to be expected as it is a tiny place and, well, it was a Sunday evening after all. I definitely recommend this place for people looking for a nice but not too expensive meal.

I ate there a couple of years back. I remember very distinctly my appetizer of smoked mackerel and the lamb shank confit. Both were amazing. And the pudding chomeur was great, of course. I guess I will have to go back there soon enough, if only to finally try the poutine au foie gras.

La Table Tourigny has had very good reviews. http://www.tabletourigny.com/ It is a BYOB. There is also Auberge Georgeville and Auberge Ripplecove that you would most likely enjoy. I am from the Eastern Townships myself, though I am a student and therefore on too much of a budget to try these places, and I would recommend you to spend some time in Knowlton and Sutton. Nearby Sutton is a small village called Abercorn which has an awesome bakery (the Abecorn Bakery). In both Sutton and Knowlton there is a specialty shop called La rumeur affamée that has good cheeses, charcuteries, pies, etc. Sorry if I am late with my answer, but maybe it will help some other people down the road!

First message here, I hope it won't be the last! I'm having a 'La Chouffe' right now. Very good beer in my opinion, quite strong too. Later tonight I'll enjoy some beers from Le Brouemont, a very nice micro-brewery located in Bromont, in the Eastern Townships (Québec). Their scotch ale is particularly amazing.
