  1. A new clue has been added to an existing movie puzzle:

Please don't assign numbers to your new movie foods...if a movie is solved before it gets put into a recap, it's not given a number since it's out of play.

Also, we're getting some repeat movies. Try not to use "Pretty Woman", "The Godfather", "Cool Hand Luke", "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom", "Fargo", "Moonstruck", "Repo Man", "Mrs. Doubtfire", "Fried Green Tomatoes" and "Dirty Dancing" as they've all been used twice.

    CONGRATULATIONS TO:

-petite tête de chou for guessing that #180 (Ramen noodles cooked in a tiny cramped space, slurped by our heroes that have come in for shelter. Various snacks pilfered from the shelves while the pounding rain pours on the metal roof...) is the film "The Host".

-Domestic Goddess for correctly guessing that:

    "Call Barbara."

    "why"

"tell her not to open the caviar" is from the film "Spiderman 2".

    ************

    WAITING FOR CONFIRMATION:

-petite tête de chou has guessed that #174 (Raw corn, bananas, scenery

CLUE: The actor won't eat the banana, but does chew the scenery) could be "WarGames".

-plk has guessed that #154 (REVISED CLUE: A floor picnic of roast chicken, rudely interrupted by monetary concerns and time constraints...) is the film "Jamon, Jamon".

    #154 is not "The Notebook"

#174 is not "1492 - Conquest of Paradise"

    #182 & #183 are not "The Simpsons"

    ************

    STILL UNSOLVED AND TAUNTING US:

    154. REVISED CLUE: A floor picnic of roast chicken, rudely interrupted by monetary concerns and time constraints.

CLUE: Every meal in the movie was disrupted by SOMETHING, but no other by money.

CLUE: The hero speaks to an older woman, and her comeback was quite memorable.

CLUE: The lady came to the hero's place of work in order to watch him. No food was visible at the moment, though the aura of ham was present.

    158. "I love their eggrolls" " Eat your eggs" and four perfect T-bone steaks

    173. Jack Nicholson film: features a lot of barbequeing (as I recall)

    174. Raw corn, bananas, scenery

CLUE: The actor won't eat the banana, but does chew the scenery.

    177. I hid behind the car. I didn't want to get any ketchup on my dress.

Here is another clue for 177:  I've been carrying around this ketchup bottle for weeks!... WEEKS!!!

    182. A whole odd-looking roasted river fish paraded among dinner party guests before being placed on the table

CLUE: The fish is probably from the Amazon river

    183. quote (more or less) 'What kind of a man does not eat a hot dog'

CLUE: The movie is based on a TV show of the same name

    184. sushi, including 'masago' and 'amachi'

    ****

NOTE: If you post a movie, please check back to see if the guesses on your movie are correct or not so we can keep the "Still in Play" list accurate.

Also, consider posting more clues if your movie remains unsolved.

-godito has guessed that #123 is the film "Made"

-WHT has gueesed that #123 is the film "Blow"

-Domestic Goddess has guessed that #123 is "Leon"

-racheld has guessed that #171 is the film "The Last Detail" and also guessed that #172 is the film "The King of Marvin Gardens".

She has posted a guess about #173 but has refused to name the film.

-Wayne has guessed that #168 is the film "Primary Colors".

#123 is not "Lemony Snicket Series of Unfortunate Events" nor is it "The Goodbye Girl"

#168 is not "Maid for Each Other"

    ************

STILL UNSOLVED AND TAUNTING US A LITTLE LESS UNMERCIFULLY:

    123. "you know what a putenesca is? it means naughty girl's pasta."

CLUE: said while the character's cooking, to a little girl, who hasnt eaten yet, and is kinda lonely. it might be "bad girl pasta" that he says.

    148. In a marketplace, buying pears, Brioche, grapes, fresh cheeses, wine, crusty loaves of bread, and a fresh pork hock

    158. "I love their eggrolls" " Eat your eggs" and four perfect T-bone steaks

    168. BBQ. Mainly ribs featured more than once in this movie. The main character seemed to savor them very much from a certain BBQ shack.

CLUE: scandal involving the said bbq shack owner's daughter and our rib-loving main character.

    171. Jack Nicholson film: cheeseburgers where the cheese doesn't melt right; purported greatest Italian sausage sandwich (+ "What's an Indiana Dog?"); and complaints about eggs

    172. Jack Nicholson film opens with a recounting of a story of non-intervention upon Grandpa choking to death on a fish bone ("breaded sole -- the crumbs only helped to conceal the bones"), with Gramps collapsing off his dining chair "looking like the remains of some chaotic dinner party."

    173. Jack Nicholson film: features a lot of barbequeing (as I recall)

    174. Two quarts of milk a day, and a little lady.

  4. oly Grail) as the film "The Fisher King".

    ************

    WAITING FOR CONFIRMATION:

-insomniac has guessed that #123 ("you know what a putenesca is? it means naughty girl's pasta.") is the film "Lemony Snicket Series of Unfortunate Events".

    NOPE

-Toliver has guessed that #123 is "The Goodbye Girl"

    NOPE

    123. "you know what a putenesca is? it means naughty girl's pasta."

    clue:

said while the character's cooking, to a little girl, who hasnt eaten yet, and is kinda lonely.

it might be "bad girl pasta" that he says.

  5. Sexiest or most sensual? Big diff. Yeah, there are all those delightful soft-focus slow-moving caress-and-savor-the-food scenes. But does anyone else recall the scene in the remake of "The Postman Always Rings Twice" in which Jack Nicholson's character nails Jessica Lange's on the kitchen table, flour and bread dough be damned? Now that raised some goose-flesh.

oh yeah. I felt, almost shy or embarasesed, like I wasn't supposed to see that view/angle of what was going on there...I could feel myself blushing, as I did with the teenage oyster diver and the older man scene in Tampopo...whew! so scandelous but not really. one is unbridled yet controlled, the other contained, yet simmering over the top.

  6. I think #125 is "Flirting with Disaster"? Or some title really close to that. Ben Stiller was in it?

    Yes!

    Congratulations!

    you got it!

    #125 is FLIRTING w/DISASTER

It's when mary tyler moore's neurotic character (mother of ben stiller's character) is being a bit defensive about Tea leoni's character's documenting her son's quest for his biological parents...possibly one of the best cast and fun(niest) movies...ever!

  7. I am guessing that #122 ("you'll eat it rare. to feed your blood") is "Moonstruck" (again)

Yes, you got it.. #122 IS.Moonstruck.

    to Confirm:

#124 IS Fargo--sorry for the innacurate quote, Joel and Ethan would not like that.

    #126 IS Goodfellas

#127, "DON'T be delicate!" is NOT Birdcage

another clue: it is yelled at close range.

  8. why do people like that movie "Chocolat"? I thought it was horrible

-Big Night, for the love of food.

-Antonia's Line has a wonderful bit about the artichoke, and a lot of food/farm/life fodder

-the Sopranos almost alwways makes me want pasta and red sauce, or steak.

-I agree with whomever said Moonstruck. Nicholas cage at the bread oven, Olympia Dukakis at the kitchen making eggs with red peppers in toast, and her slyly sipping her soup..the dessert tray at the restaurant and the sugar cubes in the champagne..all wonderful. even the coffee.

    what a great flick.

-tampopo for sure. remember the lady squishing all the bread items in the grocery store?

-what about "I love you to death"? not very respectful of food, but fun, nonetheless

    -mostly martha

-gazpacho in Almodovar's "women on the verge"

  9. I took these myself and have them hanging in the kitchen.

Do any of you have photos or paintings of food hanging on your walls?

    oh yeah.

    pomegranate project, by nicola kountoupes

plus my whole thesis project for my mfa revolves around filo dough as a substrate for my images.

I'll figure out how to post them on here...eventually.

    WAITING FOR CONFIRMATION:

-petite tête de chou has guessed that #110 is "Tuesdays with Morrie"

-caroled has guessed that #117 is either "Out of Africa" or maybe "Elephant Walk" and has also guessed that #116 is from "The Little Princess"

-johnnyd has guessed that #66 is "Goodfellas"

-Toliver has guessed that #117 is "The Naked Jungle"

-I_call_the_duck has guessed that #95 is "Down and Out in Beverly Hills"

-insomniac has guessed that #120 is "Chocolat"

    110. "Is it just me, or is this food really small?"

CLUE: This line was spoken towards the end of the movie during a $10,000/person charity dinner for Lou Gehrig's disease that was attended by the entire ensemble of characters.

    Friends with Money

    111. Numerous brands of bottled water, including Perrier, Evian, Glacier, Vittel, and Volvic.

    The Player

    114. An oldie: Bon-bons, peppermint, lemonade, crackerjacks, a chocolate bar, a sugar bowl, a tootsie roll and a devils food cake

    Chitty-Bang Bang?

    120. Nipples of Venus showed up in another movie. Anybody care to name that movie?

    Amadeaus?

    121. A turkey wing, walnut dressing & lemon soda. There's also an egg and onion sandwich. But food doesn't play a big part in this movie...alcohol plays a bigger part.

    all my FRIENDS...barfly?

    CLUES FROM Nicola:

"you'll eat it rare. to feed your blood"

"you know what a putenesca is? it means naughty girl's pasta."

"you gotta eat breakfast, margie. I'll make you some eggs."

"I'd like to hear you psycho-analyse us. what would you say, huh? overbearing, controlling, my husband is a cheese phobic?"

clue: same movie as the lsd laced quail.

"he had this great system for slicing garlic."

  11. I'm cooking a greek feast this Sunday, and I am looking for a greek market.
