  1. In my one trip into Texas, I managed to hit up Cooper's in Llano. I don't know how it's going to stack up to the other places on your list, but man, was it good food. I'm looking forward to the whole write-up!
  2. I thought it was pretty good, although I'm only 50/50 on 'travel food' shows (Bourdain being a notable positive, $40 a day being nails on chalkboard). I was at first weirded out, then happy about the 'wandering' nature of the show (all the way back to Charlotte?); that's the way I would film a road food show, personally. And being from the South originally, I can't wait to see some of the barbeque he runs into. I agree, the other guys on the drive should get a little more face time, but then again, we'd probably find out that those guys are witty as cardboard if given the chance. I'll be interested to see if they show the actual crash, and what factors led into it; that's all I could think about when he was looking down and narrating while driving in this first episode. ***Behind Good Eats Spoiler below*** W is a chiropractor - who woulda thunk it?
  3. Cukes just sounds offensive to me. EVOO, since the first time I heard it, just screams 'look how cool I am! I made up an acronym! I'm tooooo cool to just say the words.'
  4. Hi everybody, First post (whee!), and even after some reading, I couldn't figure out the etiquette on this one, so I'll just let you scold me if scolding is necessary. I was browsing this subforum, and came across this thread that's a lot like what I need: http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=89071 My fiancee and I are moving to SF in February, and getting married at Fogarty Winery next July. Then, we're going to road trip from SF to LA, and I'd love some further advice like what's in the thread above. What restaurants/inns/B&Bs would you suggest for somebody who'll be leaving the Palo Alto area and driving down the coast to LA (flying out of LAX)? Some guidelines: - I'll eat anything. - My fiancee cannot handle spicy food at all. - We're beginners on the whole wine thing; we both really like Rieslings and similar 'sweet' wines. One or two stops that involve learning wine would be OK; a 'wine tour' would be overkill. - We're fairly young, and have a 'moderate' budget (not cheap, but not lavish). - We've got four days to make the drive. - Adventure is good. Thanks!
