  1. Hi..Thanks for the great suggestions...I certainly will take your suggestion and write to you again...do you have any more suggestions for dinners like these..especially simply cooked fish and seasfood...thanks again...
  2. thanks....will keep that name..we were not going to eat at Emeril's any way...I dont love his cooking...we live near NYC so we get to eat haute cuisine here...not really looking for that in Florida...all suggestions are welcome...
  3. congrats on those twins..whew!! We will have a rental car and will be spending a week there and then a week in Naples...lots of the time in Orlando will be at Disney World, we think...we like good food...can be simple with no sauces and we try to eat low fat...not too spicy...
  4. We (2 adults) are going to be visiting Naples area in Jan 08 for a week...we are looking for good, reasonable simple (healthy) food...for dinners...We also are looking for someplace we can pick up yummy sandwiches to take with us on day trips...thanks in advance...
  5. sorry..forgot to add that we are going in Jan 08.
  6. 3 adults are visiting at Cypress Harbor and visiting Disney World...we are looking for good reasonable, simple food...no gloppy sauces...fancy we can get in NYC...please help us...thanks in advance...
  7. We are going up to Southwest Harbor for a week in September. We do go every year and love Thurstons for lobster...however, we are looking for other suggestions...in Southwest Harbor or any of the towns on the "quiet side of the Island". Anyone know the name of a deli in Northeast Harbor for sandwiches...we saw someone eating one last summer that looked great. Mexican food is really not our thing...all other healthy suggestions are welcome...thanks in advance...
  8. ok, problem solved..label says "Fresh wild Copper River Sockeye Salmon fillet US"..I simply did not read it carefully enough..I am cooking it as we speak and I look forward to enjoying it...and I would have bought it anyway...I have been waiting for wild salmon...even Sockeye...
  9. Was the Costco fish King (a.k.a. "chinook") or Sockeye (a.k.a. "red") The two Copper River varieties run concurrently, with an anticipated 1.36 million sockeyes in this season's take vs. 50,000 kings -- so sockeyes tend to be less pricey. They're delicious, too, but not quite as tasty. Based on the price, it's my guess Costo is selling sockeye at that price, though I'd love to be wrong. ← I honestly do not know..is there any way I can tell from the package??
  10. I found Copper River Salmon yesterday at the East Hanover Costco at $9.99 a pound....looked beautiful...so I scooped it up for dinner tonight...called West Orange Whole Foods to compare prices and the fish man told me he had ordered 20 pounds for tomorrow...he has none today...it would be priced between $15 and $25 a pound this early in the season...I just wanted to share the information if anyone is interested in getting it....
  11. Hi...Our meals at Nicholas have been quite lovely...except for the beef entree both times..it was full of fat and gristle...that is not ok...and if this is the BEST of NJ restautrants (the new Zagat again this year) then I can say that is horrible..the rack of lamb for a $5 surcharge was lovely... Anyway, is there a reson that you cannot expand this trip into NYC?
  12. Hi..We always bring dinner which we enjoy in the car before the game...and then during the game there are 2 treats that are always great...the popcorn...fresh, not too salty and yummy and the soft serve ice cream in a mini helmet...wish there were more healthy and decent food...
  13. Hi all...I like Nicholas a lot..just a weird warning...we have eaten there twice and both times someone in the group ate their beef entree...both times it was horrible and I am not sure who...so if you skip the beef, you can have a wonderful meal...well priced...3 courses for $55. Sadly, I cannot come up with other really good places...I like Lulu's in Livingston a lot for lunch...and so sadly, I go to New York City most of the time.... Joan
  14. Dear Shengcai, What a total treat it was for me to read about your wonderful adventures. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing them with us...We look forward to our 3rd visit to Per Se in May...After our first meal there right after they opened, I thought it might not be as great the 2nd time...but it certainly was. We have always been treated like honored guests there...which amazes us...We are visiting Babbo again this month(eaten there many times) and have finally figured out that the pastas rule...the gnocchi are my favorites with the pasta with spicy clam sauce being a close second..the best clam sauce I have ever eaten...Jean Goerge was my very favorite meal before Per Se opened...so thank you again for the pictures and the tales...
  15. Good morning....I am a lay person who loves really outstanding food. I can only speak for myself but I totally disregard journalists, food writers, etc, who write a "review" and either do not know food well enough to discuss the good and the bad or just do not do so. That is why I enjoy papers like the New York TImes..I may not always agree but over the years I have gleaned much valuable information from their reviews. Just writing the positives is NOT a review...and a waste of the reader's time. All that being said, we have had some of the best meals ever at The Ryland Inn...but that was many years ago..Sadly, we saw a decline in food as well as service...and when that happens we just vote with our feet and sadly, go elsewhere...and for me, that means into New York CIty. We WILL not pay New York prices for mediocre food and service!! I understand someone choosing not to post private conversations here..However, it is sort of teasing us to hint and then partially disclose...but I do understand Chef David's reasons...I hope we can all move on now....
  16. Hi...We ate at Capsuto Freres and it was okay but we are looking for more suggestions for next Thanksgiving...for 5 people, with a regular a la carte menu as well as turkey for those who might like it...good food that is not really extravagant since I dont feel this is the day to splurge...thanks a lot in advance for your suggestions...
  17. not sure that I would compare it to Wegman's...But oh, what a store...I couldn't really take it all in ...was there for the first time today...they still have a lot of bugs to work out with their machines...BUT I learned from the Customer Service people that there will be a Paramus store...77,000 sq. ft. opening (??in about a year??) and then one in Union where the putting course is near Home Depot..and then the Millburn store will move over there...that one will be 60,000 sq.ft...and they are both listed on the Whole Foods Web site as under development...all I can say is WOW...and maybe Shop Rite will clean up their act...It is all good for the areas involved..
  18. The reason we did not go to the Princeton area was because we go on a Saturday and the roads are SO crowded and on a Princeton football home game day, it is so much worse...thus, we chose Route 78...am I not correct about the traffic or are there better roads to take that are not crowded?
  19. thanks for the information on Circa...and we enjoyed some apples yesterday...super good...
  20. just wanted to ask again..any new suggestions in this area?? Would love to hear and our vacation is getting closer...thanks in advance
  21. THAT IS SO SAD...
  22. Hi...Actually info on Peaceful Valley is listed on previous page of this Forum..phone is 1-908-730-748...they do grow their own apples..enjoy..what is Circa??
  23. Hi...SO last Saturday and this Saturday we went to several apple farms determined to find wonderful Winesaps...my Fall is not complete without them...I previously posted that we had gone to Matarazzo's and were very disappointed...by unripe, I meant that these apples were tiny, green and very sour...NOT Winesaps flavor at all...so we used the NJ State Guide found on line for finding apples and we drove out Route 78 to several..our favorite at Exit 15, turn left and they are few miles out on the right is Peaceful Valley Farms...the Winesaps were good last week, and great yesterday...so I am a happy camper...
  24. That space would be way too small and the parking lot is way too small as well. ← Ok... I'll take your word on the size of the building, but there's no way that there is a parking shortage. That lot is HUGE. ← Try going to Costco on a busy Saturday, you can barely find a space in that lot. Office Max, which was a big store, used almost no spaces in that lot. Go to the Wegman's in Bridgewater and look at their lot on a weekday, its usually full. The Princeton store, which is even bigger, has a bigger lot and that lot is also usually full. There's no way that lot is big enough for a Wegman's. ← You are so right about that parking lot...but it would be nice if Wegmans did move there. In thinking about it, it would give Shop Rite some really, really needed competition.
