  1. If Ian Anderson had seen that thing back in the '60s Jethro Tull might not have been called Jethro Tull.
  2. Lou, why not make things easy and have steak frites? Wash it all down with a Cote Du Rhone or Bordeaux and you've got a meal that people would actually want to eat. BTW, I wouldn't be so sure about winning. France did have an easier semi final match and they did beat Brazil in the quarters. Edited to remove pointless political commentary which would have gotten this post yanked off of eG faster than you could say "stash".
  3. Good luck. Would you say this would be like an Arthur's with brick oven pizza? I know Charlie Brown's claims to be a Steak House but I couldn't imagine ordering a steak there. Any of what you did at Venue going to sneak into the menu here? There's lots of ways to riff on the traditional steak house menu.
  4. All that blood spilled for nothing.
  5. To bring this all back around to where it started, Cook456 where did you end up going?
  6. Thanks for the follow up. I just tivo'd a "Good Eats" about jams and preserves maybe I'll make my own. Maybe I'll also die of botulism. Probably should just shell out the $6 a jar and quit bitching.
  7. If I'm the only one who signs up would I still win the TV?
  8. Does anyone have one of these? On sale today as part of Amazon's weekly Friday sale. It sounds good, maybe too good. Please don't write about how this isn't authentic BBQ, I live in NJ and probably wouldn't know authentic BBQ if it slapped me across the face according to most people who live in the BBQ belt. Any info would be appreciated. Could you achieve the same results in a low oven? I like the idea of being able to set this thing up and come home from work to find dinner ready. Worried that it will end up gathering dust in the closet with other kitchen gadgets.
  9. What does the jam sell for? I'm a sucker for locally made jams and preserves but they can cost so much more than supermarket stuff and half the time I end up making PB&J's for the kids with jam that cost me $7 for a small jar. Does the guy have a website? Does he venture any farther south than Ridgewood?
  10. What about Jerry's, 340 Paterson Ave. in East Rutherford? I have never been to this restaurant but my parents go there and my dad doesn't like BYO's so I bet they have a bar. Call and find out (201)438-9617.
  11. Another write up from today's NYTimes, link. Yes, I will report back. I've got some down time coming this weekend and with the 4th coming this seems like the perfect beverage. The clerk at the liquor store said that the feedback on the rootbeer had been very positive.
  12. Just picked up 2 four packs of this new collection from Sam Adams. For full details click here. Wanted to know if anyone had had tried this yet and what you may have thought.
  13. Nice pix. I'll have to put that burger on my list.
  14. I like the idea of the "reverse" salad bar. I shy away from salad bars because I worry about other people's hands in my food or even worse someone sneezing into the food or... you get the idea. The closest thing I know of to this is the chopped salad at Livingston Bagel where you tell them what kind of salad you want and watch them put everything into a large wooden bowl and hack it to bits with a mezzaluna. Only problem is how long it takes to make each salad and how far the line extends at peak times.
  15. More info on Opah Grille please. I don't think I've heard it mentioned here before. I'll second the recommendation on 3 West and don't forget Ciao, the Italian sister restaurant immediately next door.
  16. Funny, because I wouldn't order a vegan burger on principle. Is it possible to eat responsibly at a ballgame? Should you even try? Think of how you could change the words to "Take Me Out to the Ballgame", buy me some veggie burgers and tofu snacks, if you do then I'll never come back.... Hey, I just try to leave the park in condition to drive home. Thats as responsible as I can be.
  17. Going to the game Thursday. Please, please, please beat the Mets. Guess I'm headed to Tony Luke's for the pork sandwich. Anything new since opening day worth trying? Sounds like I'll have a few Sly Foxes as well.

Eric, you are a marketing genius. Btw, when are we going to that Chicago dog place in Linden?
  19. Eric, just sent you a PM, you can disregard that too. Too bad, I was looking forward to going. Maybe Monday.
  20. I'll meet you there tomorrow, and I'll bring a pack of Martin's Potato Rolls!! I pretty sure Jack won't mind-He's nice like that. ← What time? Is he open on Sunday? I'm serious.
  21. I'll go but only after I confirm that I can get a dog on a bun without poppy seeds. I'm allergic and when I lived in Chicago, Evanston actually, this was a big problem with eating hot dogs. Also, I agree with John that this dog is milder than the all beef dogs we're used to here on the East Coast. BTW, as a Wilco fan I think its great that there's someone one eG with the name viaChgo.
  22. I was there 2 years ago and wouldn't go back. I felt that the price/quality ratio was way out of wack. We stayed in the hotel and that was too expensive also but at least it had a great location and a helpful staff. The restaurant, which they push on you when you stay, served lackluster food at NYC 3* prices. I can't remember what we ate, what does that tell you? I'd look elsewhere.
  23. TJ's was the first store I knew of to carry the Total yogurt line, now available elsewhere. They have some Niman Ranch meats and some Usinger's sausages. I really like the house brand of wasabi peas. The one wine I go back for is La Boca Malbec from Argentina. For $3.99 it's a great value. They have other varietals under the La Boca label but I don't think they are as good. Some of the frozen veggies are good, the haricot vert for instance, and they have passable frozen meatballs. Passable if you're in a pinch and serving them to children covered in cheese. They also sell a canned Italian tuna under their label that I've seen in Italian markets with an almost identical label, just doesn't say "Giotto Joe's" or some such. I work very close to the Florham Park location and I'm in Westfield once a week with my kids so TJ's is very convenient. I will say that you can't do a week's worth of food shopping there. They just don't have enough of a selection.
