Yeah I saw it all over the news too... they had the best food from all over the state- "to start with, a couple of hamburgers"... they made a point to mention that the Spitzer daughers were all over the garbage plate - guess they don't stay kosher!!

That's crap! I can't believe I see so many people saying that NYC has such a bad nightlife/danceclub scene when there are soooo many options on any given night, so much so that people from all over the country and the world come to NYC for it. It really depends what you are looking for; are you there for the music, the sound system, a particular DJ, a particular crowd, an "underground" feel, a Miami chic feel, etc. etc. - it's all happening - I've been in your situation before, and if you are with a group of girls you're not going to have trouble getting into most clubs, and what you want is in the West Chelsea area i.e. Stereo, Crobar, Home, etc. feel free to PM me I'll sort you out

There are a lot of Japanese and Korean options, including Momofuku, but it sounds like you want something more formal, and the wine pairings, I'd really go for Mas (farmhouse). You will not be disappointed...

That immediate area is really horrible - this is always a tough one. I'd definitely do 1 or 2 Korean lunches, you can really try such a wide variety that it will never get old, one of the best places for lunch is the place, I don't know it's name but it says "24 7" amongst a bunch of chinese characters, it's just east of the Kang Suh and the parking garage. If you exit on 8th Avenue then you can walk up 9th avenue and there are a few options, Market Cafe @ 37th and 9th, HK at 39th The Stage Deli @ 33rd is decent... Hope that's enough for you for now....

Sure... gonna have to think hard to piece together that night...

She's way way way out of his league... Ya know, Shimizu-san told me he's only been there 2 years, and he was formerly Sushi-Zen. Apparently word got around that I was moving into the neighborhood, because in the last 2 years or so, from Sugiyama and a bunch of Sushi Chinois, we've got Yakitori Totto, Shimizu, just now a Gari, and this is not even getting into the TW Center and thereabouts... a new Sushi Bar, looks authentic, just opened in Worldwide Plaza - someone's gotta take one for the team and check it out, just opened - But besides Masa yes I'd say Shimizu's got the best show running in HK...

I'm starting to think that Nathan is both Bruni and also a a Michelin reviewer. That means Bruni moonlights as a Michelin reviewer. Earth-shattering!

Guaranteed he's reading this. Probably googles his name monthly too!

You had to go there

I might be the first regular poster to have gone to kyotofu, but it made perfect sense after I went overboard at Shimizu (just a few steps away) with mi madre. Especially because sushi bars especially are not places to "linger" at. Kyotofu was absolutely great, it would be very difficult to find anything near the finely-crafted dessert tofus they have, absolutely delicious. And they have a pretty good selection of sake and shochu. Really great room, not sure why they needed so many hipsters waiters there. I know i just said I went with my mom, but if anyone has a really hot date they'd like to impress with a "Tokyo night out", hit Shimizu, Totto, Sugiyama, or I guess Gari, and then top it off at Kyotofu. Then of course Japas or Muse for a karaoke box for 2.

Seriously - I'll be by on the merit of this post (and your resume) alone - and we really appreciate you posting, I suspect far more proprietors lurk rather than venture to post...

Save the recent opening of Ushiwakamaru, there really isn't any good Sushi downtown...and that's how it's been for decades! I went there last year, and it was pretty good, but way overpriced for what it is. Esashi is VERY good and in the east village, that's my secret spot...

http://www.kitchenmarket.com/ but is that fresh?

Great as in Joe's Shangai's and willing to travel from uptown to downtown over....?
-
The city's best Japanese is all in that area - Midtown east and whereabouts - and they all usually run very affordable lunch specials - Check out Aburiya Kinnosuke, Katsuhama, Donburiya, Rikie, or even Menchanko-Tei if you're up for it!
-
That's pretty harsh! I haven't seen such a disparity of reviews recently...
-
Turned out to be a private party. There were drag queens accumulating upstairs... I see that for $10 not $4? How do you get it for $4? I'm willing to try the food given that their namesake drinks are not all that special...
-
Thanks for the advice.... anyone else??

As i posted here: http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?act=ST&f=88&t=91472 but it probably belongs here instead... "Looks like I will be here in the very immediate future - for dinner AND drinks - who has been recently and who can provide advice to what food and cocktails were the best? Looking for guidance, any tips appreciated!"

Better than Yasuda's uni? What was nontraditional? And what was the damage after all? BTW I'm sure you know this but kanpachi is a type of yellowtail.

I just had left over Fatty crab short ribs for lunch at work today! I think they were better today than when I ordered them at the restaurant on Sunday!! ← Just like a brisket!
-
I would have gone to Ghenet already but I've heard from several that it's a bit westernized - (but maybe they all are) - any truth to this?
-
Burger, Corner Bistro still gets my vote - it just has not been anywhere as inconsistent as others have said, and the bartender is a sick Mets encyclopedia...

That's worth a lot! What a diverse guy - he said his last meal would be sushi at - Yasuda I think?
