This raises the question of how you are getting to the Getty which is some distance from the hotel you mentioned without a rented car. Some sort of bus tour? I don't think you can practically use public transportation to get to the Getty, but maybe I'm overlooking something obvious. If not, why not rent a car given what you'll be paying for cabs, etc.?
Don't know about discount, but FWIW El Vino (a wine bar and restaurant near the Inns of Court, frequently mentioned in Rumpole stories) sells lots of wine, etc. You have to wear a coat and perhaps a tie to get into El Vino IIRC.
Yeah at 1:00 a.m.! Give yourself an hour, seriously.. Depending on the beach you are heading to, you are probably looking at more than an hour commute. The locals can do it a half hour, but there is fore-knowledge of back roads for that scenario. If I can just get off of that L.A. freeway Without getting killed or caught Down that road in a cloud of smoke For some land that I ain't bought bought bought If I can just get off of that L.A. freeway
For the most part, the good restaurants don't have ocean views (guess they don't need em). I've heard Moonshadows in Malibu has a view and a new chef doing good things. I'd give it a try.
A place strangely called SAPP Coffee Shop 5183 Hollywood Blvd Los Angeles, CA phone: (323) 665-1035 has been getting good notices for cheap Thai on another channel.
That is my understanding, but I have not used them in many years. Me either. The only thing I remember about traveller's checks is that you get a slightly better exchange rate on them--at least in an office of the issuing company. Is it worth running across town for the difference? No.
Far better to have had this happen at home than in the middle of your trip. BTW, on the subject of cameras, you might want to pack some extra batteries--they seem to die in the most inconvenient places. I seem to recall unsuccessfully scouring San Gimignano for a battery for a dead camera.
