I've been waiting patiently for a wine question. As you are no doubt aware from reading this site's posts, California wine seems to get its share of criticism. Lacks terroir. Too oaky. Too fruity. Too expensive. Too[insert judgment du jour]. Giving these criticisms their due, what do you like and what do you think the future holds? Somewhat off topic, do you think Rancho Cucamonga wine/vines are worth saving?

Try living in Wyoming sometime and you might change your tune. I hear you, but isn't there a lot of game available? Does that compensate for the lack of commercial choices?

Elsewhere Jason asks about the definitive LA dining experience. Putting that aside, if you could only eat 3 meals in LA, where would you go, what would you have, and, if relevant, what wines or other beverages would you choose to accompany the food?

This reminds me of a product liability case I was involved in years ago. Our client's product proudly bore a sticker that read "[insert name of well known federal agency] tested." It turned out the product was "[agency] tested." Unfortunately, the product had failed the test miserably. Yeah, we settled the case.

Here the two are inexorabley linked. inexorabley Well, maybe conjoined.

Plus mouth effects. The second glass of the same wine in the same mouth may generally taste "better."

Russ, I'm not trying to cause anyone grief, I'm just curious about how Shaw gets to do what he gets to do. He seems to know some stuff about food, but IMHO not as much as say you or Colman Andrews for example. Still, he gets to go to France (and Spain) and gorge himself on great meals and wine. He gets to go to wine auctions and place bids on very expensive bottles for himself and Selvaggio (Valentino). He seems like a jet setting foodie with a diplomatic pouch. And he gets paid (handsomely, I assume) to do it. But frankly, allthough his adventures provide vicarious thrills (and heavy doses of envy), I've rarely noticed any meaningul insight into food or wine. I'm not bitter, just curious how this came about. Thanks. And as long as I'm here, what's your opinion on the best burger in LA?

Submitted for your consideration: If the principle behind the Wine Clip is valid, doesn't it make sense to become best buds with the local radiologist and have him run all your wine thru his MRI scanner? Nobel committee, that's H-O-L-L-Y-W-O-O-D.

It's now becoming clear to me that the editing of the ad cuts out the part where Chef Bayless runs the sandwich though the Wine Clip. That's the only logical explanation.

Here's an opportunity for you. I hear Rick Bayliss is available for an endorsement!

Wonder what Jancis Robinson would think of this? Maybe Randall Grahm could make a wine designed to be used with the Clip--a sort of before and after "science" thing.
