  1. Yes. As someone who grew up in Vancouver, where most Chinese ingredients are common place in all supermarkets, I too am anxiously awaiting the opening of the T&T Supermarket.
  2. I checked out ottawafoodies and chowhound as well. I'm wary of any post that proclaims a place to have the best egg rolls. That's not the sort of Chinese I'm looking for. Thanks for the help. I'll check them out.
  3. As someone who has recently moved to Ottawa from Vancouver I'm looking for at least decent Chinese food. I'm not asking for Chinese restaurants like those in Vancouver, but somewhere that is at least decent. Are the Yangtze and Chu Sing the best I can expect?
  4. Has anyone heard anything about Tojo's moving to a new location?
  5. Red Pepper is no more, being replaced by Portabelo Restaurant, to be opening soon, (looks like very soon). ← I noticed a sign on their window this morning. They are openning today.
  6. the first time I tried the pork jerky from the place on Fraser I kept eating it until my jaw hurt.
  7. the top Zagat ratings for Vancovuer for food were 29 - West 28 - Lumiere, Bishop's, Vij's, Pear Tree. 27 - Tojo's, Le Crocodile, La Regalade There were a bunch with 26 including C
  8. Bee Kim Heng Beef & Pork Jerky 4194 Fraser Street Vancouver, BC (604) 875-8688 If crystal meth was made from meat this is what is would taste like. It is that addictive.
  9. Go to Smiles Cafe and have a crabhouse sandwich. Like a traditional club sandwich, only instead of roasted turkey, it has fresh crab meat. Absolutely brilliant.
  10. I was messing around on the Vancouver Coastal Health webpage today looking at inspection reports at places I've eaten recently and found that if you search Memphis Blues you get a listing for a proposed location at 1629 Lonsdale. Is this new? Are they expanding on to the North Shore? Anyone know anything?
  11. They'd been in operations for maybe six months. I don't think I ever saw more than two or three of the tables occupied whenever I walked by.
  12. If you're driving through Swift Current, you *must* stop at the Husky Station for the baked goods. Not the big plaza one for the truckers, but the other one on the south side of the highway with the strip of fast food places and motels. 610 South Service Road East. The cookies are fantastic. The sticky buns are very good. You will not regret it. Gawd I miss the Husky station cookies.
  13. I really can't recommend trying the same duck dish Ho Yuen Kee (46th and Fraser) strongly enough. It is fantastic. But get it with a large group because it is incredibly rich. It's not on the menu and you have to order it when you make your reservation, but it is well worth the effort.
  14. Has anyone been to Cipriano's recently. It's been more than a decade since I was last there. I enjoyed it then and was thinking about going, but I have heard mixed reviews recently.
