    True Lemon/True Lime

I really dislike the taste of reconstituted lemon juice, think it has a yucky chemical taste (and I hate the way it looks!). Good to know that this, at least, doesn't taste atrtifical.........

    True Lemon/True Lime

True Lemon/True Lime this comes in individual packets............but more useful, a shaker bottle. I love lime and use it a lot but every now and then find myself without a fresh one. I would be great to have something that would give decent (read: not processed tasting!) flavor. Hmmmmmmm........mixed with salt to rim a Margarita or bloody mary glass?
  3. Kind of my thought......wouldn't you just infuse the flavors of your braising liquid?
  4. What Ruth said............ keeps you from trying to do something that you know nothing about. Reduces stress You have your hands full enough with the rest and the logistics of pulling it toghether. You do want to have FUN, don't you?
  5. Thanks, Jensen. Do the greens taste like beets? (I love beets ! Roasted with blue cheese and walnuts...... )
  6. I just got a few lovely bunches of beets to roast and the greens are positively voluptuous ! Not quite 'baby' greensbut quite nice. Can I braise these ? Worth doing?
  7. I understand what brining poultry and pork achieves but I've never brined beef. I am reading a recipe for Braised Beef Short Ribs from Tra Vigne which calls for brining. Do you think this is a flavor infusion rather than succulence enhancer?
  8. You don't really drink much, just have a little nip now and then ..............
  9. King Arthur flour.............
  10. LOL........ except, if you don't go frequently, it is like CostCo. You never know when things will disappear so you need to buy them all RIGHT NOW ! The 'low cost' items add up to $100 in no time ! (Worth it.......) Just got some Lemon Balsamic vinegar and some Stilton w/ ginger and mango (for $4 less a lb than my local cheese shop), herb salad mix (so easy) and the yummy Mediterranean Greek Yogurt (Cheese style) to have with fruit.......and the crunchy little Savory Rounds....... wish I had one closer than 1/2 hr.........
  11. ACK........sleazy. Where do the wines come from? Thought it appropriate that they give 10% to BREAST cancer research.........
  12. Maybe it has been done but I've never had the pleasure: Lapsang Souchong Full charcoal smokiness, dark and thick
  13. I think they are a great alternative to take out! I know a lot of families who would benefit from this type of organization where the adults really don't like to cook (or are too busy ) and the littles ones suffer as a result. I personally think it'd be fun to OWN one of these franchises. I'd love to hear from anyone out there who is familiar with the logistics of running one!
  14. Those are some of the most satisfying little crackers around ! I love them with the Stilton w/ ginger and mango.............

    Savory Oatmeal

Yes, indeed ! I wasn't planning on trying to make a risotto with rolled oats................blecch ! The only steel cut oats I've seen are McCann's. Never seen them in bulk. I bought some Thick and Rough Oatmeal from Silver Palate that I thought would be but, no. Guess I'll need to replenish my McCann's. (I think Trader joe's has it for a good price !)

    Savory Oatmeal

I've been thinking of making a savory oatmeal, kind of like a risotto, but would love some input on how to keep it from getting mushy and what the best flavor combinations might be. McCann's has a recipe for an Oatmeal Pilaf that looks pretty good. I love their steel cut oats for breakfast so, why not?

    Eat at Joes

Joe's Place 608 12th St., Paso Robles, California Supposed to be a great breakfast and burger place, which pretty much should define a "Joe's", IMHO
  22. That's a neat trick, Chris, and one I hadn't heard of before. However, if I'm gonna do asparagus next month, I don't really want to do artichokes right now. Next time they're on sale, though, I'm gonna give this a try. I buy fresh artichokes once every 6-8 weeks when they look good and aren't expensive and steam them. I can put away 2 or 3 of them myself as dinner (I mean as the whole dinner), with homemade mayo or melted butter or both as options. ← Trader Joe's has frozen baby artichoke hearts in a bag.........cook up what you need and throw the rest in the freezer ! So easy !
  23. Always loved those.......
  24. Zuppa Valdostana It is a baked cabbage and bread and cheese 'soup' that I love. Hubby swears he hates soups, including this one, but will scarff down every little bit when I make it. Go figure. (Edited to add: oh yeah~I put crispy bacon on the top of mine!)
  25. I can imagine my (long -gone) Slovak G'ma nodding her head in agreement to this.....
