  1. Does anyone have an address for boncellas (sic) or harmonia (sic)? I found Bonks Bar on Google. ← I am not sure of the exact address but it is right next to regency caterers which is located at 2378 Orthodox St, which is rigght off the bridge street exit of 95 (where harbison ave meets aramingo ave at orthodox)...harmonia is about a block up on aramingo ← Boncela's (Note spelled with one "L"), Orthodox and Milnor Streets, 215-537-8039. Closed Sunday Harmonia Club, Aramingo and Orthodox Streets, 215-533-4390. Crabs available Tuesday through Saturday

  3. Bonks has reoppened, about a week after christmas. The place is totally redone and the food is excellent. although the old timers that used to dip their crabs in a pitcher of beer may not like. I am going to miss the three stooges decorations but the bathrooms are a major upgrade. The crabs were on point and i might even say better than before although a little spicy. I also had a chicken cutlet with broccolli rabe and sharp prov on a sarcones and it was delicious... their version of crab (er old bay) fries were very good but dont come in a brown paper bag anymore. the place is a bit smaller now. I'd have to say that port richmond/bridesburg corridor is probably the best in teh city, with bonks and boncellas (havent been to the harmonia but heard they are same as boncellas), byrnes doent do a bad job either but I prefer their wings and potato logs...then there is always chickies up a bit in the mayfair, wiss, tacony triangle.
  4. I worked at 5th and Chestnut for a bit and for the first few months couldnt find a decent slice of Pizza until I found (although sacreligious (sp?) NYPD pizza. If you get the fresh mozz, it is quite good. Also good in the area is Pietro's off of South Street as well as Soho on Market St.
  5. This is an interesting topic. Being from the NE, who IMHO has the best steaks in the City (Chinks, Steves and Fruscos)...I happen to think most steaks outside the city are subpar with the exception of Mamma (sp?) in Bala Cynwyd (who happen to use mozz and sauce). However, I went to college in Readin, PA for a year and I ordered a cheesesteak from a place called Vassalo's. I asked for a plain steak (realizing I was in foreign territory I wanted to play it safe), what I got was a cheesesteak (American) with onions, mushrooms, peppers and sauce. I couldn't believe so I tried another place and you guessed it, the same thing. I do not understand this phenomenon.
  6. you are probably talking about Bonks, Boncela's and Byrne's. (something with the letter B) I prefer the crabs at Boncela's, however the other foodstuffs like wings and potato logs are the draw at Byrne's. You should really like the atmosphere at all three of these of these places. real neughborhood type places.
  7. If you are in the NE Geiger's and Holmesburg Bakery.
  8. Lemme guess, she had a small salad and a glass of wine as a "meal" then tipped 10%? Okay, okay, I won't go there. Sorry. Back OT, I prefer Villa di Roma to Ralph's, though even at Villa di Roma, knowing what's good and what's just respectable makes a big difference in how good the meal can be. I find the waitresses more brusque than grouchy, even. But for So. Philly Italian, I really totally luurve Marra's. ← Marra's Caesar salad is great and are all their pies (especially their peppers ans onion,. but i feel the need for draft beer here and the bottles at like $3.50-$4.00 a pop can get a little expensive. But the chicken sorrento at ralph's give you chills with each bite. and you can't knock the decor
