Vancouver/Western Canada Ingredient Sources Topic

I don't know if they still have it, but I think I remember seeing 90% Valrhona for sale at Ganache Patisserie. http://www.ganacheyaletown.com/ -
For really casual Italian, try Nick's Spaghetti House http://www.nicksspaghettihouse.com/ Or for something more upscale, you have to try Adesso Bistro http://www.adessobistro.com/

Wow...I wonder who would be the Vancouver Soup Nazi?

I have to agree with the Pic Nic recommendation. I got six there this morning at 9:30. They were just out of the oven, warm, flakey, and buttery. Actually better than any I've had in Paris. And they were BIG. ← Address, please. ← 1443 Clyde Avenue http://www.amblesidevillage.ca/lepicnicfre...eads&pastry.htm

I have noticed recently a few Taco Del Mar's opening in Vancouver. The most recent one on West Broadway. Anyone tried their fish tacos before?

There has to be something wrong when you see the ceiling above the deep fryer at Prime Time Chicken drooping down and stained with oil.
-
Yup, they look great! They are on my To-Eat list.

The Soup Nazi is finally giving in and going to start a retail line of soups: http://money.cnn.com/2005/04/22/smbusiness...dex.htm?cnn=yes

i would actually recommend going to omnitzky (its on cambie just south of 41st) because they tend to have a fresher selection of bagels. AND great 99cent hot dogs. ← Omnitzky's prepares the kosher meals for Air Canada flights. The next time you fly on Air Canada, I would recommend that you pre-order the kosher meal. I think it's better than the regular Air Canada food. ← What sorts of dishes do they usually prepare? i tend to bring my own food if i fly air canada b/c the food is so terrible. i would imagine the omnitzky food is still not that great? ← For breakfast, they had potatos, an omlette, fruit, juice, and a bun. It is more appetizing than the powdered eggs they serve for the regular meals: http://www.airlinemeals.net/meals/AirCanada-021030.html I haven't had the lunch or dinner kosher meal, but I was told that they served Omnizky's smoked sandwiches.

If you normally go to the Benny's Bagels on Broadway, then you are not far from the other Solly's on 2873 West Broadway .

I eat at Shiro a lot. I know it's a bit out of the way for you Deborah, but I think it's worth it. Here's my report from my Blog (CLICK) Cummon Sam. Don't hold back ... tell us how you really feel! A. ← I go to Shiro's a lot too. Whenever anyone asks me to recommend a place to go for sushi, Shiro's is at the top of my list. Their sushi is inexpensive and fresh. Plus you get a package of Pocky when you get the bill. They are open for lunch, but are closed on Tuesdays.

I would recommend Solly's Bagels ( http://www.sollysbagels.com ), and don't forget to get some Babka and Cinnamon Rolls for something sweet.

Sometimes Francesco Alongi sings in his restaurant, Don Francesco. He is truly amazing.

If you are looking for good soup and sandwiches and some tasty desserts, try Picnic, which is right beside Meinhardt's.

Lupo Cafe on the corner of Burrard and Georgia has great paninis and pasta dishes. The food is excellent. The people who own Villa du Lupo runs this great cafe.

I'll be in L.A. next month, and an In-n-Out is SO on my list (my first!!). I wasn't ALL that impressed with the Santa Monica Fatburger I had last time I was there...I mean it was good, but not quite all that. I'm looking forward to the In-n-Out ! ← Order off the special menu and get a double double, animal style, with a neapolitan shake.

Budgies! I drove by it the other day and it looked a little scary - even for me. But I will check it out now that I know someone else done the deed. My memory of driving by it was it was on Kingsway on that triangle where it meets up with Main. Right behind where Bain's chocolates used to be - on the other side of the block of Aurora Bistro. ← My mistake, that's the one. I got confused with how Kingsway and Main meet in that triangle. It was very busy when I went there today, so I took that as a good sign of a great place to try.

I like to hear about some of your favorite hole in the wall restaurants. I just found one today by Main and Broadway called Budgies. It is a great funky small place with burritos and tamales. The tamales there are delicious!

Godiva's - Vancouver Restaurant Sitcom (merged)
DarkDante replied to a topic in Western Canada: Dining
Here is an interview with Rick Tae from Godiva. http://www.ricepaperonline.com/features/9....dishwasher.html It sounds like an interesting show, I'm going try to catch it this week. -
Thanks, I'm going to try that tonight!

I think Katz's corned beef and pastrami in New York is "da best". It is so moist and tender and only sliced by hand by the butchers there. Remember to order it extra juicy and tip them, so that you will get extra meat in your sandwich. That and a glass of egg cream is the NY Deli experience. On a side note, does anyone know of any place in Vancouver that does egg creams?

That really sucks! I guess there are no more deep dish pizza joints in Vancouver. I remember there use to be one in North Burnaby, but I forgot what the name of the place is. I know that it has been closed down.

There is a deep dish pizza place on Denman, but I have not had a chance to try it there yet. http://www.mydeepdishpizza.com
