Pegu on friday night is a zoo. If you want the true experience you should try to go on thursday and do Room 4 Dessert on Friday.

I finally got a group of 8 together for the Bo Ssam last week and have to say that it was impressive. The deal is for $165 you get a whole roast Berkshire butt, dozen oysters, 2 kinds of kimchi, rice, and bibb lettuce. They aren't kidding when they say it's a whole butt. We thought we'd have to order more food before we got there but it was more than enough to satisfy 8 and would have easily been enough to feed 10 normal people. The pork was amazing, practically confited in it's own fat with crisp delicious skin. It was so tender that they serve it without any knives. The two catches are that it's on their late night menu which doesn't start till 10:30 and you have to order it 6 hours in advance. When I eat after 10:30 it usually isn't something that I've planed for 6 hours earlier with 7 other people but for this I might have to start making an exception.

There is an Oren's Coffee inside Grand Central Station. No seating inside the shop but plenty at the food court. Not exactly romantic or a conventional date spot but it could be fun to grab a cup of coffee then walk through the market on before grabbing some seats downstairs.

I just tried a couple Aviations with the Aviation Gin and have to say that I'm not that impressed. I tried a few different recipes with and without creme de violette but none struck me as being any better than other gins I've used. I'll stick to the Miller's Westbourne Strength for my Aviations (since I can't get the Plymouth Navy Strength here in the US).

I walked in a few weeks ago midweek at around 7pm and manged to get 2 seats at the counter with no wait. Might have been a fluke though.

Only VEP? Go for the Elixir Végétal! (I just had an image of you doing the "Buddhist Palm" kung fu move on a Sazerac )

This is certainly not cool but check out this oddity I found at an A&P in NJ. On the back it says: If I put this a cocktail with this does it count as molecular mixology?

I forgot to add $1 Dumplings!!!

That was my favorite place too until Pan told me about Banh Mi Saigon Bakery (on Mott between Grand and Hester). Now I'm torn between the two. Banh Mi Saigon only does pork and chicken but they're better than the version at Viet-Nam Banh Mi So 1. Viet-Nam Banh Mi has other kinds of banh mi so it's a toss up depending on what you're in the mood for.

Nathan, have you checked out Taqueria y Fonda la Mexicana on 107th and Amsterdam? Speaking of "two Korean places offered a couple rolls" I'd say that there is also no good Korean food in the city (compared to LA).

I believe it is and there is a thread on fruit vinegars in the soft drinks forum. I've made Baker's Raspberry Vinegar that I posted in that thread and it mixes with cachaca (MdO) but it is listed as a temperance drink.

Grand Sichuan Midtown and St Marks use them, not sure about the others. Wu Liang Ye on 48th also uses them.

I guess it's time to start a club.

Shanghai Cafe 100 Mott St New York, NY 10013 (212) 732-5533 Menupages link I'll have to check it out. Thus far I've been the Yeah Shanghai camp, especially since I've convinced them to give me the dumplings uncooked so I can steam them at home.

That's amazing! Who knew it would be that easy to find in Japan? I might have to impose upon you as well to ship some bottles over as well. I wonder if it will be a problem to get it through customs though. They might also have to be sent as collectible bottles.

It is always a pleasure having you over. I had a great time mixing drinks with you guys. Shortly after you took off Cachaca Dave made an appearance as well. That was for a concord grape, ginger, and key lime variation on a gimlet. ps Thanks for the cardamom tincture! The Ramos just isn't the same without it. -
I'm sure there would be a delivery service for the really good stuff.

Johnder, themaninwhite, and I will be mixing up drinks in the lower lower east side this Friday Night from 8pm-midnight. Send me a PM if you'd like you join us for some serious cocktails. As a teaser, here's an Aviation tasting we did a couple weeks ago with three different Creme de Violettes. -
LeNell carries the Michter's Cherries. They aren't listed online but she has them and I'm sure they can be shipped. The Luxardo Marasche al frutto (cherries in syrup) are the best though hands down. Dean and Deluca carries them but it's hit or miss if they'll actually have them in stock on any given day.

Too much flavor! Vodka Soda is the way to go. Think of the calories and carbs you can avoid. -

I can't belive that's what your kitchen used to look like. Perhaps we can sling some drinks at my place friday night for other eG folks in the city if you don't have any plans yet. -
I too would choose Devi. Tabla certainly is more creative and has the Danny Meyer service going for it but Devi tastes better.

I recently had the tea smoked duck and fresh bacon at that branch. I'd recomend the duck but not the fresh bacon. It was just greasy and flavor less compared to the double cooked pork.
