  1. I still would have done a dessert. Probably something with coconut to keep with the theme.
  2. That episode was effin awesome! It made me want to go to HK the next day. Though...if and when I go...it might be by myself since my friends would probably want to spend most of their time in Macau ...getting "massages." I totally loved the part about the old man handmaking the noodles...very endearing. The whole production of the episode was just spot on. As one poster alluded to...the pinball analogy was brilliant.
  3. Thank you for the suggestion! Maybe you can join a community garden like this one in Irvine: click My sister joined one in Boston this year and it has been working very well--flowers for cutting and vegetables and herbs. ←
  4. You can sometimes use it in place of lemon...especially in marinades. It's the secret to my dad's bbq. It's also a staple in Filipino cuisine...especially with noodle dishes. If he has a good harvest I'll try and bring you some. It's citrus heaven.
  5. Man...after reading all the posts on what people have been growing...I'm bummed I don't have a yard. If I did, I would probably plant a few things that I grew up eating: Kalamansi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calamondin) Cherry tomatoes Watercress Collard Greens Squash Green Onions Taro Thai bird chile
  6. If you go...let me know! I'd be down to check it out too. Ahhhh...I'm feeling all nostalgic already.
  7. I'm troubled. I can't remember what I used to get when I was a kid (when we used to visit family in L.A.). But I do know that I've missed Bob's Big Boy. Maybe it was just more that it reminded me of good times. Hmmmm...maybe I'll make a trek to the OG Burbank location.
  8. Nice pics man...I still remember your braised short ribs! Damn tasty. I think I stumbled upon this site from a blog a few years ago. I had a feeling I would run into you here. Wow man, how did you find this forum? Big welcome. For yucks, here are just a couple of several photos taken from the Costa Mesa steakhouse event some months back now: ←
  9. Tyler Florence is cool in my book...but my favorite chefs on T.V. are Ming Tsai and Mario Batali. They are both kick-ass...and I can understand them. TYLER FLORENCE following in Julia Child's footsteps??? tyler florence most resembles child? the horror. i cannot even bring myself to contemplate the number of verbal tics and filler words florence uses constantly....on more than one occasion, i've had to turn the kitchen tv off because he's repeated the same inanity ("ya know") to the point that it crept into my subconscious and i couldn't even bear it as background noise. doesn't he have about three shows now? i briefly saw him on "how to boil water". apparently he replaced the guy with the accent and the difficult name (von koppernal?). i'd prefer the accent, and the self-deprecation, but that's just me. ←
  10. Damn J...that looks righteous! BTW...this is Aaron.
  11. I just checked out the website...looks good! Hopefully the next time I'm in town...they will be open. As for the purpose of this thread...there are a lot of hidden gems in San Diego. Let me think about it and put together a small list of my favorite places to eat at when I make it down there to hang out with friends and family.
