  1. Ahhhhh... proper Cask Conditioned beer... Yum. I was just back in Scotland and had one of the most PERFECT pints of Caledonian 80 shilling ever at the Barony Bar, Broughton Street, Edinburgh. Amazing. There's nowhere in Toronto that comes close to serving a pint that good. (Unless of course you can tell me otherwise???) I have some pics of my favourite pubs here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/20066223@N00/...57600989987247/ Just don't look at all the other shots I have up there... not pretty.
  2. Nice... thanks for the review!
  3. Really looking forward to trying this out.
  4. We just started the brunch thang a few weeks back.
  5. I used to like Bacchus... but living nearby less and less so. Where is Chicken Roti BTW?
  6. "Do they have curry goat, jerk chicken, etc., as well?" Yes... I'll be trying those offerings very soon.
  7. It is at 269 Dunn Avenue (at Queen) Please do not be deterred by its humble appearance.
  8. Oh my goodness... I have lived nearby for a wee while and had never visited until last night. This takeout place is not much to look at but... I ordered an oxtail dinner with rice and beans... and some coleslaw... And I have to say it was absolutely delicious!!! I will be back very, very soon.
  9. I have to say that raw milk is one of the most delicious foodstuffs that I have had in many a year. I only wish that I had the opportunity to get hold of it on a regular basis.
  10. Not selfpromotion in the slightest! I was actually contacted by another egulleter earlier today who suggested I post something about the cause. When I questioned the deletion I received this message: "Hi Non Doctor, you've been sent the following by a Chowhound moderator: Chowhound has a very narrow focus - sharing tips on where to find deliciousness. Political topics and discussion of government policy, even when food related, is too far afield from that mission. We hope you understand. " Perhaps I am waaaay off the mark but I felt that the subject matter was both topical and poignant. Is it out of bounds for the rather more "liberal" egullet?... let's see shall we... I find the issues surrounding Mr. Schmidt's predicament fascinating.
  11. Could someone give me a reason why Chowhound would delete a similar post that had helped to provoke some interesting discourse? The mind boggles???
  12. And... I forget that many are ignorant of the myriad issues surrounding the subject of "raw milk" in Ontario... All of the info you need (and more) is here: http://www.realmilk.com/real-milk-can...
  13. As some of you may know, one of our long-standing suppliers, Michael Schmidt, had all of his dairy equipment and a substantial portion of his product confiscated on Tuesday, November 21 during a raid carried out by the Ministry of Natural Resources. Why, you ask? It all comes down to the fact that Michael distributes raw milk contrary to the Milk Act. In response to the government’s actions, Michael has gone on a hunger strike. To show our support, Chef Jamie Kennedy is attempting to organize a press conference at 9 Church St. on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 10am. Chef encourages anyone who wishes to come out and support Michael and the efforts of all those who are trying to introduce raw milk into Ontario’s dairy community. 14. I did a wee search and couldn't find any topics on here... Have any of you been there as of yet? Kim Cyr (ex-George) is doing the wines, so they should be up to scratch!
  15. "Challet is now maning the stoves at Le Sélect (new location on Wellington Street West)." J.P. Challet has been out of the kitchen there for a number of months now.
  16. Has anyone tried Kubo Radio's delivery? http://www.kubo.com/delivery.html I was having a look at the website the other day and thought I might give it a go.
  17. I am of the understanding that the Wineries involved are "taking care of business" for us with regards to restaurants and the like. But thank you anyway. Still looking for the good but sleazy afterhours drinking spot in SF on the Sunday though... Jamie D
  18. It's my third time organising said tour... so I am well prepared!
  19. Well... perhaps "Hipsters" is the wrong descriptor... Just looking for somewhere fun and happening... Okay, A number of us fellows (5) from Toronto are travelling to Amador/Russian River Valley to do the "wine thing" next week. But we have one night in SF (Sunday the 13th). Our party comprises one Sommelier/two assistant Sommeliers/One Studmuffin-Superstar-Canadian Chef/Owner and finally one Restaurant Owner/Sommelier... Ages 26 through 50... All of us but one come from here: http://www.jkkitchens.com and the interloper comes from here: http://www.dine.to/niagarastreet We are looking to go to a couple of tapas style/tapas inspired places (think Casa Mono NYC)... And we are not wanting to break the bank... as we are on a wee bit of a budget. Casual would be very good. I would love (and appreciate) your suggestions. Thanks in advance... Oh... and a good sleazy place for drinks later would be most appreciated also.
  20. I think I saw something up the street on Church the other day... could be mistaken though!
  21. "And I think every restaurant should be closed on Canada Day so people can swim and watch fireworks and BBQ. " I wholeheartedly agree...

OOOOOhhhhhhhhh.... Be very, very careful with such a pipe dream.
  23. Personally I favour "Salt and Shake" from the UK with the wee blue sachet of salt. I like them unsalted myself.
