  1. I did attend the Bardot opening. Had a great time, but I always do (I keep good company). The highlight was the sabering of an oversized champagne bottle by their wine consultant, Mireille. I did, however, feel surrounded by some fine examples of the work of Vancouver's plastic surgeons. Will have to go back on a "regular" night and sus out the feel of the place. Grand Openings are never indicative of the day to day feel of a restaurant.

  2. Is Salt open?

From Judith Lane in the Georgia Straight:

With a savoury menu of artisanal cheeses; charcuterie from Oyama and Seattle’s Salumi; a wine list sporting 10 red wines, 10 whites, and 10 sherries, all by the glass; plus Tiger, Unibroue, and Brooklyn beers sealing the deal, Sean Heather (Irish Heather) and partner Scott Hawthorn have an out-of-the-park hit with Salt Tasting Room. Find it in Blood Alley, Gastown.

  3. The Georgia Straight reports that KaRV - taking over the old Adesso space - has opened:
KaRV (2201 West 1st Avenue), a cool surf-style concept bar/restaurant with a relaxed vibe, prime patio seating, and a giant “feast” table in. KaRV’s menu? Fish tacos, coconut prawns, tiki wings, sirloin steak, and microbrews at down-to-earth prices.

They opened last Friday June 23 for evenings only and are now open during the day as of June 28.

  4. The old Quay Restaurant on Marinaside in Yaletown will now be................

    VINTROPOLIS # 2!

I prefer wine to sports however a big sorry to all you sports fans!

Are you serious? Could they not have given it a better name? It would be like calling Sean's retaurants Fiction , Fiction (#2) and Fiction (#3). Let's hope they come up with something better, It's a great spot.

From Vintropolis Newsletter - Watch for the opening of Vintropolis' sister restaurant Bardot Lounge and Grille at 1137 Marinaside Crescent in Yaletown. (in the old Quay Restaurant location)

  5. Clews on Main between 23rd and 24th is under new management again. Rekados modern Fillipino cuisine is opening up in the strip mall between 24th and King Ed. Hopefully they exorcise that location as well, as it has been a revolving door of culinary experiments. Actually, that service could be a neat little niche market for an enterprising eGulleter.  Exorcisms R Us.

Clews to be called Crave and is a project by Chef Wayne Martin from the Four Seasons Hotel.
