  1. I am sorry I missed all of those touches, and I am sure that each diner was free to forgo them if he or she found them offensive.
  2. I would have given Mix three stars, based on the one meal I have eaten there. I don't think there were any flaws at all in the execution of the dishes I had, although not everything may be tailored to Grime's palate. My wife declared the fresh rasberries and rose ice cream dish the most exciting dessert she had eaten in recent memory, yet Grimes hated it. I hope that Ducasse isn't forced by the critics, rather than the diners, to alter his concepts, like he was at ADNY. I did point out to our server that certain of the glass "Petri dishes" were difficult to eat out of, so it wouldn't surprise me if they end up making some changes there. Interesting point.
  3. You mean you are not a member of the Grateful Plate's Bacon of the Month Club? Grateful Palate
  4. I tried my second Piper's Kilt burger (Picaman's pick; located on Broadway, between 207th and 208th st.). Again, it was a very good pub style bacon cheeseburger for $6.75. As an added perk they will include all you can drink (beer/"champagne"/brunch drinks) if you get the $12.95 brunch package (between 12-3PM). Picaman, How does the Piper's Kilt compare to Molly's? Do you think we should add it to the club's list of places to visit? I also had a hamburger on Saturday at Brasserie Perrier in Philadelphia (16th and Walnut). This was an enormous (allegedly 10oz., but I suspect it was larger) cheeseburger with sauteed onions and ham on a brioche bun for $12. Very good, but not quite in the same league as the JUdson Grill hamburger. Robert
  5. Does ADNY make money? If it does it would make 2x as much if it offered two seatings, like practically every other high end restaurant. I would think that Mix would have more potential for profit.
  6. I was inspired by this article: NYT article on Hamburgers To try the burger at JUdson grill last night. Very good high end burger ($15). Large, very flavorful (and well salted) charcoal grilled patty (10oz.) served on a brioche bun. I am not too keen on the bun, but it was one of the best burgers I have had in a while. See the picture in the NYT article (in the "slide show") It is available at the bar M-F.
  7. The problem was it was such an easy target for the critics. I wonder what would have happened if they had opened with a $100 menu and jacked up the price after the initial rounds of reviews. Maybe they would have ultimately lost less money and emerged with a more positive reputation. It is hard to complain about too much luxury for a bargain price.
  8. Tommy, I always assumed that was your first name. Is your screen name an homage to The Who?
  9. Is Burger Joint (at the Parker Meridian) a good choice for the second meeting? It is a completely different category than Molly's. Burger Joint is more like a high quality fast-food burger (~4 oz., lots of toppings) whereas Molly's is a larger "pub burger", which is more about the quality of meat. It certainly isn't fair to directly compare a $5 cheeseburger with a $10 one. The best time to go there is probably after 8PM, pretty much any day (M-Sat). It tends to be very busy at lunchtime, even on Saturday. Maybe Burger Joint should be combined with a second destination. I usually eat two of them plus an order of fries, anyway. McHale's maybe? Or some other "pub burger" place?

    Bouley

They are inconsistent, but they tend to do better at less busy times. When they ran the restaurant at half capacity (for the reopening) I thought the food and service were top notch. Unfortunately, they probably need the high volume to be profitable at their price point.
  11. Check out Mix's 3-course pre-theater menu. Quite a bargain at $45.
  12. I was always most impressed with their desserts, and the other offerings are usually decent. Still, I would rather spend $45 and have the pre-theater dinner at Mix.
  13. That location is going to be right on top of Columbia's new campus. I am sure they will do fine, with Fairway shoppers+locals+Columbia students.
  14. Is this Morton's different than any of the other Morton's locations scattered across the country? That Acela ticket could buy a lot of burgers at Morton's in NY.
  15. So that's the second rule of Burger Club? Wait, which is the first rule? Is it not to talk about Burger Club, or is it that there's NO FUCKING BIG NICK'S? This is really peeving me. But there is a Big Nick's, there is! Big Nick's Burger Joint Too You are right though, that the original broadway branch is simply called Burger Joint.
  16. If you like the Blue9 burger, than I think you will really like the hamburgers at Burgerjoint (in the Parker Meridian hotel, NOT Big Nick's). They are $5 for a cheeseburger and fries are $1.50. Soon after Levine's NYT article came out I did a tasting of Burger Heaven, Burgerjoint and Blue9, and concluded that Burgerjoint was my favorite. I did like Blue9, though.
  17. $$? As a room service order it was $34, but I assume it would be a lot less if available at the bar.
  18. Has anyone tried the St. Regis burger? I saw it featured on a program on the Foodnetwork once. I think they claimed it was the best burger in NY, or at least the best available at 3AM from room service.
  19. Holly, Has your opinion changed of the Rouge burger, or are the places outside Center City that much better? Anyone else have an opinion on the Rouge burger?
  20. Yeah, but it seems kind of silly for a bunch of New Yorkers to trek down to Philladelphia to eat at the local outpost of a New York restaurant. I think Pietro's (local outpost of NY's Patsy's) makes excellant pizza, but I wouldn't recommend it to visiting NYers.
  21. I would disqualify any chain restaurants. Does Roosevelt's(22nd and Walnut?) still serve an extremely cheap burger? I think it was $3 for a cheeseburger and fries ~10 years ago.
  22. Hi, There is a current thread on the New York board about a weekly burger club Burger club and a few posters are considering coming down to Philadelphia in there quest for the perfect Hamburger. Where would you recommend trying? Robert
  23. If we go to Philadelphia how about a Georges Perrier burger?; "
  24. I think Pat's goes back 70 years.
  25. I will be there, and I will even bring my wife.
