Second Bistrot du Coin! About as classic a French bistro experience as you can have. Jaleo, for tapas style dining.Same chef, Jose Andres, owns Zaytinya which is Greek/Lebanese styled little plates. Both are great. I believe both take reservations only 'til 6:30, and can be very busy after that. You could do three or four tapas at jaleo and be out of there reasonably.check out www.jaleo.com for a menu and link to zaytinya.

Phungi, I did a 40th b-day for my so last Oct. at The Inn at Phillips Mill.If you rplanning on spending the night I'd highly recommend it.It oozes romance, the food is good, and the room rates pretty reasonable.

Percy, Did you puree the tomatos in a food processor or blender? how finely? How long do you let them strain. Also, I wonder if you salted the tomatoes , then hung them if they would release more liquid? Bill

I like their Pale Ale.

I was in St Martin in March and highly recommend the following: Johnny B's under the Tree, Cole Bay, excellent ribs.Better than the lolo's in Gran Casse. La Mambo, Gran Casse, owned by a young French couple, laid back atmosphere, very good food. Rosemary's, Marigot, as recommended by Bourdain.Rosemary's food is outstanding value and very, very good. There is a cluster of lolo's or outdoor eateries in Marigot, all jammed togethor, make sure you get under Rosemary's awning. Poulet D'Orleans, Orleans, a must go.The chicken is sublime.Get a half chicken with peanut sauce, if your with someone else make them get the half chicken with creole sauce.the veggies that come with are also outstanding. While your eating on the porch, you are entertained watching the cars negotiate the hairpin curve right underneath you. Kali's Beach Bar, Friars Bay, decent food right on the beach.I had a farm fresh egg omelet one day.Really good, fairly inexpensive also.Beautifal beach. If you go here, walk over the bluff and check out Happy Bay (about a 5 minute walk) even nicer beach, pretty secluded also. Take a ferry over to Ile Pinel.I believe you get the ferry from cul de sac, if my memory is correct. Gorgeous beach. Two rest's there serving okay food.I would consider bringing a picnic, renting a lounge chair and umbrella and spending the day, swimming, sunning, snoozing, drinking and eating. Also ate at O' Plongior (sp?) in Marigot. It means diving board in French. Very good, casual, big portions. You could probably do app's for dinner and be satisfied. Enjoy your trip!

Try: Dawson's Seafood 821 N Madison Wilmington.302-658-4238.Mainly wholsale, but does sell to the public. Actually close to Kennett Square in Hockessin De, is Tomm's Produce 302-239-6900. On Lancaster Pike, which is Rt 48. Rt 41 comes south from Avondale/ Kennett Sq? and merges into RT 48, so not a bad drive at all. Feby's 302-998-9496, about 10 minutes further south on 48 from Tomm's.A restaurant with a retail store attached.Phone number is for the retail store. Also not a bad drive from Kennett Sq is Hadfields on the southbound side of RT 202 is Hadfields. They are actually right on the state line.I called them and they have Blue Claws. They quoted me $165 for a live bushel.I'm not a big crab purchaser, so I have no idea if that is a good price or not. I would go to Hadfields first, then Tomm's, then Feby's, and finally Dawsons in terms of minimizing drive time. I have bought seafood from all these places for many years and can vouch for their quality and service.

If you are coming to the Wilmington area I can give you some names. It's about 25 minutes or so by car from Kennett Sq.

I find it very strange they wouldn't taste the wine. It certainly sounded flawed from the description, or over the hill. In either case I think they should have given you a store credit without any argument. It sounds like you returned almost all of the bottle, which should show you had serious doubts about the wines integrity.

Longwood to Wilmington is about 25/30 minutes. Parking in Wilmington is nothing like Philly. Deep Blue has a garage right over top or you can valet. They will stamp your ticket, and I believe that gets you two free hours. You won't pay more than a couple bucks at most. I never valet because the parking garage is literally over top the restaurant. Check out www.bigchefguy.com for info on Deep Blue and Dan Butler's other restaurant Toscana.( Which is next door to Moore Brothers in Trolley Square) I would call them about seasonal specialties. It wouldn't suprise me if they are doing something with Maryland crabs. There are several fine restaurants around the West Chester/Longwood area also. Gilmore's, The Orchard, Sovana (more casual than the previous two.) I'm sure there are threads on all these somewhere.

For what it's worth, I bought the River Horse at a local retailer in Wilmington, De. Maybe their lager doesn't bottle well. I've heard this comment from some retailers in regards to Victory's Lager. Which I find undrinkable from bottle. Like the River Horse, I've never had it on tap.
-
River Horse Lager, brewed in New Hope, Pa. I had this yesterday for the first time and it was AWFUL! It tasted like vomit. Anyone familiar with this brewery? Did I just get a bad batch?
-
Also heard WONDERFUL things about Deep Blue in Wilmington... Deep Blue is indeed a good restaurant. I have eaten there several times and have enjoyed just about everything. Good wine list also.
-
Unless I'm mistaken Fri, Sat and Sun can offer their wines at such low prices because they own the building and have lower overhead than most restaurants in Philly.
-
I believe Dogfish Head, the brewery in Delaware, makes rum also.
-
I've been to D'jango enough times to know they don't think it pretentious when we show with our own stemware. They have even graciously offered to rinse them out when we are finished.
-
It is not tacky or pretentious to bring your own stemware to byo's with lousy glasses.Especially if your bringing some special wines. I'm not a huge fan of stemless Riedels, but they are a good option to tote to byo's because they are easily packed.

Made a reservation for Docks on Friday.I'm guessing oysters is their thing, but anyone else have any recommendations on what to order there?
-
I'll be in AC this w/e and need recommendations for Friday night dinner and lunch Friday and Saturday. I searched, and Cafe Vola and Docks got my attention.Any updates on these places? If you could only go to one, which would you choose? My girlfriend and I like the menu on Dock's site, but also enjoy the byo Italian scene. Also, any good pizza, subs, casual lunch places we should check out? What do I do during the day Friday and Saturday?(I don't gamble) Any good wine shops, interesting cafes, etc? We're staying at the Borgata. Thanks.

Lunch or dinner? A drive into South Philadelphia at lunch time wouldn't take long at all. At Dinner time, parking could take up more time than it's worth. It really depends on the time of day.

Had a wonderful dinner here Saturday night! I can highly recommend this place. The food is well prepared and the service is excellent. There were four of us and we started with a dozen oysters, green salad, and soft shell crab for app's.We followed this with another order of oysters ( i believe they were from Fanny Bay in New Zealand) and four orders of steamed mussels, all delicious. For entrees we had roasted sturgeon, slow roasted duck, and pork loin. The sturgeon was fantastic! I had never had sturgeon before and it was a memorable dish.Oven roasted with a bernaise sauce that the chef punched up with some citrus. We also had side orders of garlicy ramps. For dessert we had the cheese plate. Everything was excellent and most ingredients, I believe, were local. The chef was engaging when he came out to intoduce himself and answered all our questions about preparations, etc. Total bill for four about $200 (no wine or bottled water) Can't speak to the wine list because we brought our own.We cleared that first so I don't know if they regularly allow that. All in all I highly recommend Thomas Morans.
