  1. I've had some fantastic fish at Firefly recently (cozy and romantic, sort of opposite of Zaytinya). I'd also ditto Little Fountain Cafe, but again, might not fit your Zaytinya atmosphere desires. Have you tried Ceiba?
  2. They (finally!) updated their web site and now it has fancy flash graphics so that might be the problem. I had to up my Internet memory to get it to display. Here's what's on the web site dessert menu (notice that foam makes it on the menu): Tres Leches con Tres Pinas Home-style cake soaked in milk and presented a new way, with pineapple, milk jam and carmelized almonds Bizcocho Templado de Chocolate con Banana Warm chocolate cake with Venezuelan chocolate flan, banana foam and fresh banana-lime salad "Pina Colada" Coconut, rum and pineapple are the components of this classic tropical cocktail, served as a light refreshing dessert Sopa de Mango Soup of mango, frozen with mint, lime and meringue BABA The age-old classic French yeast cake, served warm in a modern Latin style with our special blend of jamaican rum, spice, panela and tangy fresh cream Coco en Dos Formas Coconut two ways with mango salad and vanilla-lime Gelee Sorbete del Dia

  4. Welcome to the area! If you happen to be down in Penn Quarter/Chinatown on Thursdays, stop by the smallish FreshFarm market on 8th St. NW between D and E streets. (If you metro, hop off at Gallery Place.) The market's open from 3-7pm, I think through the fall. Went yesterday myself and made dinner out of some delicious, tender okra, plump heirloom tomatoes, swiss chard, fresh, creamy mozzarella and a loaf of seven-grain bread. Other goodies included apple and pear butter, ricotta cheese, plums, apples, melons and flowers. It's a producer-only market so all the produce is local and some is organic. Happy food hunting!
  5. I'm a huge fan of Not Cool hot sauces. They're certified organic (one of the few hot sauces to claim the distinction, i think) and GMO free. My fav is the chipotle hot sauce (hickory smoked jalapenos), but for thrill seekers, try the chocolate habanero XXXXHot sauce. Wooo weee! And much to my pleasure, I can now find it in D.C. even though it's produced by a small operation in Bahama, NC (that's ba HEY ma, not ba hä ma) outside my native Durham.
  6. Had a nice meal at Curry Club a few weeks ago - we were the only people there (though it was pouring down rain and a Monday night). The manager said they had been filling up most nights. The small dining room is on the second floor and was too brightly lit when we were there. Hopefully they have a dimmer. The food: We had naan, a salmon tandoori appetizer that was really good, spicy beef vindaloo (nice heat) and a lamb dish (can't remember name). The sides (particularly the cauliflower stew) were tasty and the portions generous. All in all, a very satisfying meal. The menu has sort of a British tilt and according to our server changes daily. I'll definitely go back sometime.
