nothing that i can think of, might be flats but don't think it's a restaurant, anyway all the kit is in anthonys at flannels!

Prices were similar at both but if anything TR worked out more expensive per head. £210 for 2/4 (4 starters, 4 pasta, 4 main, 1 desert, 1 cafe, 4 limoncello, 4 house apero, 3 wine incl. service.) As i said not a bad meal but not a great one for £105 per head and that was shared by the non- RC'ers present.

interesting news hope it does well but that stretch, just a corner past all bar one, is just off pitch and many have floundered as the hoards turn right at ABO and go down greek street , personally i turn right into ABO and stay there!

so it would seem we all love the river caf! lovely lunch on sunday, despite the weather, will try and do it more justice later, marked contrast to theo randall on monday night which was just not in the same league, despite charging similar prices-high.

in essence not a lot has changed, red chilli & a smattering of decent bradford based indians probably being the only arrivals of any gastronomic note. No3 has simplified itself but quality still stands - had v good lunch there last week. Since closure of pool court, Anthony's is the only fine dining venue in town plenty of new chain restaurants and bars to choose from but we were hardly short of those, i noticed manc based pizzeria croma have just opened in leeds, but otherwise not a lot to report.

but did you still have your liver with you? ← he stormed off long ago. long hours, poor pay, i think.

And I thought David at Le Champignon had scaled down on the amount of food he was giving his customers. ← left LCS at four-ish from memory, down the road into the retreat, then montpellier wine bar ....then... there was certainly pizza express & a taxi and i woke up in my hotel in the right room. Result!

had a cracking lunch at the goose yesterday, with the help of Mr Tom Tom it's not that far from the motorway and certainly made a good diversion from our trip back from cheltenham and le champignon sauvage. Sunday at the goose is a more along the lines of traditional roasts and given we'd had a 12 hour session the day before we were more than in mood for some comfort food. A tempting menu of around six starters/mains/desserts came and from it we had a parmesan risotto and a ham hock terrine followed by two roast beef. Matt kindly sent out a little taster of his deep fried pigs trotter, like a cromesquis with an excellent caper quenelle and a nicely dressed little tomato salad, a good palette livener. my risotto starter hit the spot with a nice ring of reduced balsamic under the risotto and rocket leaves and parmesan shavings on top. Sarah was very contented with her ham terrine. I almost forgot the bread! three choices, nice and hot white, wholemeal and fennel i think from memory. the beef was very good served with some nice seasonal sprouting brocolli and cabbage with good roasties and yorkshires . although the previous days exertions were catching up on me at this point, and aided and abetted by a NZ Pinot noir i manfully forced down an apple crumble and sarah a glazed rice pudding. Fresh mint tea for sarah and a large expresso & calva rounded off a very pleasant couple of hours. It was very pleasing to see the place full as we left and it has certainly been very well renovated with an excellent eye for detail which i always like to see, sarah was as interested in where the paint came from as her lunch! (farrow & ball btw) well worth the trip and would certainly like to return for dinner at some point for a full work -out

yes, enjoying having our life back! there's a myriad of decent dining pubs the aforementioned star being the pick. It's worth picking up a copy of the good pub guide as thats quite a reliable guide for north yorkshire.

World's Top 50 Restaurants 2007

oh no, you've done it now. i went there last week, unfortunately i came down with food poisoning and only managed a few courses before i had to bow out and leave it to my fellow gourmands to scoff, it looked great btw. However we were in the company of a local, who goes to el bulli every season (at the end so it's at it's best btw) and he reckons El Poblet is the best restaurant in the world -

i seem to remember if we could have done lunch he'd have got a bonus national reviewer also, unfortunately he'd also have had to put up with bapi, thom and myself for an afternoon. Probably best they stick to evening service. -

we tried, if they did lunch we'd have been months ago ! I caught this contest too from the luxurious surroundsings of the metropole hotel in padstow , haven't seen anything of the series and didn't even know what the format was (luckily basildog filled me in) but entirely agree it looks like some very welcome publicitity for sat bains, who on the basis of his what he's done on telly looks a must try, a certain leeds restaurateur of my acquaintance also recommends it highly. -

i was wandering through manc yesterday, and saw a place called the grill on the alley or something, making a fuss about kobe beef burgers and steak, anyone tried it? -
It's Tuesday evening and we're not busy

How was the food Andy? ← i assume you mean at the d duck mathew?! FWIW i thought it disappointing when i went late last year, not at all pubby too to slick and had no terroir (to be poncy) you could have eaten the restaurant menu in london easily, however the related punch bowl was significantly better, rustic but sylish. -

there are exceptions to the rule (imho the destination restaurants don't conform) but your average place will be quiet as hell mid-week building to friday and saturday peak and a busy sunday if you do trad lunch. at least london/major cities has expense account dining which can also distort. it might sound suprising but thinking about it, it's probably the old 80/20 rule rearing it's ugly head (ie you do 80% of your biz with 20% of you customers or in the resto trade you do 80% of your business in 20% of your services) what is a pain is when you get something on a saturday night that sucks the punters out of their routine, football, bonfire night, valentines, xmas etc. -
just got a copy, nice article, pity it's a few months too late! will look good for Andy as well.

was it menuwatch? i assumed they'd dropped the article as it was a couple of months ago i was talking to them and spent ages doing the pics etc. they kept pushing for tight dealines so i thought the article was iminent. i shall have a wander to smiths for a gander later....

i left home at 10 am, i returned home at 4 am the next day. I think that is a record 'lunch' for me. so you're asking the wrong person for a detail review, i have 2 pictures on my phone of the first starter a layered tomato-ey caviar dish which was very good and the main course a lamb/beef/chocolate tart combo, which was an interesting combo. liked the feel of the place and thought the wine list decent value, which i blame entirely for the lack of memory. house champagne was very good, and the chassagne - montrachet and volnay did the trick though unusually we had more white than red.

unfortunately only a week from next Friday, do I need to make a reservation at your restaurant? ← put it this way, it's easier to get into steins than margot's
