  1. My thoughts exactly FIV. Thanks Ling for the warning. I think I will cancel my rez. Mike
  2. Never been to Moderne Burger but was it nixed for any particular reason? Was it just not mentioned or is it not worth considering even? Mike
  3. Why no... but do I see some Cepparellos and Solengos hiding back there?
  4. Butter, I believe it's in reference to the wonderful restaurant in Victoria. I'm in Victoria tomorrow but no time for dinner
  5. I think they introduced these prices late last year. Still a great bargain though and the wine list is quite varied. The Gotim Bru is a good choice to chase away those winter blues. Just one of a few establishments where a solo diner does not feel uncomfortable.
  6. My carnivore antenna just notified me of your thread Chef. Will have to resist the other meat offerings and go for the lamb as well as the CAB burger next time I'm in. As for the Burger Club outing, if it's in the next little while, you'll have to hitch your gondola on to our ark as Hamilton Street is too narrow.
  7. Just 5 Italian wines? Now back to building my ark...
  8. I think Mr. Maw would join us if we include La Tache Blanche in our list. (for comparison purposes only perhaps) We can make up some scorecards or something to tally up the results as I'm sure not everyone can or would want to visit each location that is selected. Just a suggestion...
  9. I am the 5th Moosh and I have a feeling there are others....
  10. My "non-rock star" parking spot is in front of the romance boutique. You could always testdrive a Beemer and see if the cupholder operates properly.
  11. Chef, I think you'd get your daily hit if you had a sign in front of HSG that says, "Kolachy Drop-off - 5 Minute Parking Allowed" BTW I was not at the KS today
  12. And the greenskeeping crew won't be chasing us with gang mowers... Hey we just tell them that we're helping with the aeration!
  13. This is the one item I ask for when my cousins in Osaka come to visit me. It is a beautifully balanced ponzu that is wonderful with almost anything. - m
  14. Slightly OT but... You may also be able to find the high end Yalumba Virgilius (Viognier) at your neighborhood Earl's. Their selling price is either the same or lower than when the LDB was carrying it. Somewhere around $45 me thinks. yum yum yum!!!
  15. I am in!!! I was so envious of all of you at the Les Dames des Escoffier outing last fall. Now, what do drink between each hole...
  16. I know that there may be many other examples out there but back in 1991, I found one of my favorite wines, La Chapelle for $34 in the Lonsdale Quay wine shop (don't know if it's still there). Now the same wine is over $130! Now I'm no way making 4 times what I made back then but once spoiled, it's hard to change sometimes. Coop, it's sort of like when I got my first Cleveland wedge. But on the other hand, it's a lot of fun trying to source out good buys in the $20 to $30 range or the rare sub-$20 gem.
  17. That's a great pick. It's also available for take-out. ← I love the Hainan chicken dish at Mui Garden! Hard to beat. ← Our favourite Hainan chicken dish: Cafe D'Lite - Singporean, casual 2817 W Broadway, Vancouver BC, 604-733-8882 • closes at 6pm and does not open on Sundays • best 'Hainan chicken rice' in town! presentation beats Prata-Man and boneless chicken beats Mui's! ← Moosh, Have to admit that I've never been to Cafe D'Lite although it's 5 blocks from where I live. Now I can have lunch before heading to buy bagels at Solly's and stopping off at the Broadway wine shop. Thanks!
  18. The ramen could be better but without any competitition, I guess it's the best that Vancouver can offer.
  19. That's a great pick. It's also available for take-out. ← I love the Hainan chicken dish at Mui Garden! Hard to beat.
  20. Oh, yes, and they serve the dish that sparks intense cravings five years later ... the spicy agedashi tofu. I swear there's opium or something in the sauce, because I completely crave that dish... Yum... ← You can enjoy the same spicy agedashi tofu at Toshi's on 16th at Main. I hear that Toshi is the originator of that dish when he used to be at Sushi Village.
  21. Was it not Cafe Centro for a short period?
  22. I would like to add the northwest corner of Cypress and Cornwall in Kits. I think it's called Juliet's Cafe right now but it's been home to so many eateries that I've lost count.
  23. I guess it has to do with the amount of oil used in frying them up I think. The end result is a crispy outer covering with nice chewy scallion filled insides. I like it with vinegar and chili sauce. I've tried to make the frozen ones found at Asian supermarkets but like I mentioned, I have a fear of using too much oil in the pan. I'm sure homemade pancakes will taste just awesome. Care to share your recipe Ling? After you finish your essay will be fine.
  24. If I dust off my binoculars, I can check the reservation book for you too!
