  1. Ha! I was just thinking the same thing. I ate there about 18 months ago with a friend, thought it was "okay" at the time, and never went back. I can't remember what either of us ate but it seems to me that I liked my salad....
  2. I'm always curious why these sorts of lists include so few restaurants on Capitol Hill, let alone much of Northeast and Southeast. How widely do these folks travel to search things out? There seems to be no difficulty searching far and wide in the suburbs but crossing the Anacostia seems to be out of bounds. Or am I being too harsh?
  3. Jenny, if you go, please let us know what you think. I'm curious about the menu on other nights of the week. And you can compare the strawberry shortcake with Bardeo's!
  4. I ate at Cafe Brio a few weeks ago and echo the strong recommendation. The food, service, setting -- all superb! The quality, the freshness, the execution -- simply marvelous. If you have only one meal to eat in Victoria, IMHO, this is it!!
  5. I'm a Schneider's fan. It began just because it was handy on the Hill. Now, I really like our "wine guy" and just look forward to seeing him as much as trying new wines. I guess I like the personal touch.
  6. Palena is definitely on my "want to visit" list. I was hoping they would be participating in Restaurant Week but I see that they do not. Bummer! From reading about the restaurant, I see more references to the bar or cafe menu than the restaurant. How different are the menus?
  7. Nope, not in any way. This discussion was something I could comment on and I think the whole idea is fun.
  8. As a diner, I've always enjoyed Restaurant Week because it gives me an opportunity to try new restaurants that are at the high end (or beyond) of my budget.
  9. After all the hue & cry at washingtonpost.com, I was looking forward to visiting Colorado Kitchen but also a bit apprehensive. I went with a friend on a Sunday night and it was FABULOUS! The burger and crabcakes are both worth the trip. The service was great and everyone was friendly. (I wondered if Gillian Clark has read all the bad press and given the staff a lesson or two?) Of course, we arrived at about 5:30pm. At about 10 minutes to 7pm, though, it was as if the dinner bell rang and people began flooding into the place!! As for the "controversy," I say more power to her! Every restaurant can't be all things to all people and if her food is not to one's taste, well, there are a zillion others. I thought the food was really special and it's obvious a lot of attention, thinking, and hard work has gone into it. I especially liked the "old-fashioned" desserts. When was the last time you saw pineapple upside-down cake or real strawberry shortcake on a menu?
  10. I joined the the restaurant raters and it's fun to try my hand at restaurant reviewing. So far the beta database looks easy to use and helpful as well as there are several ways to sort the information. It will be interesting to see how the launch goes!
