  1. My partner and I are going to Nicaragua for two weeks in May. We're meeting friends in San Juan del Sur for a week. We are thinking of spending a few days in Managua, then a few days on the Corn Islands as we'd like to spend some time on the Caribbean side. Any rec's for what/where to eat? Also open to suggestions for places to visit (so far all we know is that we'll be in San Juan del Sur for a week).
  2. I'm looking for a place that's open for lunch today. The few places I eat at are not open! I'll be with a friend who is visiting from a tiny town in Saskatchewan (from here originally), so fresh fish is important. We are going from Port Coquitlam to West Van, so location doesn't matter. Thanks!
  3. I had the pleasure of eating at Fabula in March. Carlos and his team made my partner and I a great meal. Highlight of the night was a stuffed squid (stuffed with creamy mushrooms I think). The restaurant is beautiful and we had some very nice wines. Carlos then went out for a couple beers with us after dinner. He offered us some insight into Chilean cuisine (he touched on a few points in an above post). This post has been a long time coming, but I haven't been in this forum much lately. Here are a few photos Thanks again Carlos. You helped get our trip off to a great start!
  4. I'd like to try everything, I may be able to swing a Monday off, but otherwise I'll only have Sundays
  5. Hello! I am working here for a month and will have Sundays off. I've been here for a couple of days but have yet to see any of the city. I haven't had time to do any research and besides a few recommendations I don't really know where to start! My boyfriend will be visiting in a couple of weeks, but most of my dining will be alone. I'm staying in Metairie, so I haven't even been into the city yet. Any rec's would be appreciated since tomorrow's my first day off. I've read Daniel's trip report and would like to hit up some of those places.....from the sounds of it Sunday evenings aren't the best. Although, when my boyfriend's here I will be able to go out for a few dinners. Thanks!!
  6. Thank you! I also forgot to mention that absolutely fresh fish is very important
  7. I will be spending a month in LA, cooking for a client who is staying there. We'll be staying in Metairie. I haven't done much research about the area, up until today I knew I'd be in/around New Orleans but didn't know exactly where. Any recommendations? I know there's a Whole Foods. My client prefers organic/local etc. I also tend to cook a lot of Asian (mainly Japanese) food. Here in Vancouver, it's not a problem with ingredients. I think I read something in this forum about people buying pork belly in Asian markets. Can anyone recommend any Asian markets that are close to where I'll be? I'll have a car but prefer to stay close due to time restraints. Are there any farmers markets? I'm leaving in less than a week! Thanks for your help!
  8. Thank you so much for this. I will be spending a month there in July for work, my stomach is looking forward to this city!!
  9. Thanks for all the suggestions, we had a great time! Show was amazing, food and drinks were great. Went to Boka, Brasa, Union, Salumi and the market.
  10. I will be in Seattle to see Daft Punk this Sunday and am looking for suggestions. We want to keep it casual and not too expensive as my boyfriend is meeting us after a week eating in San Francisco, and the people we are going with aren't really diners. This is more of a party trip I'd like to take advantage of happy hour one night, is this only a weekday thing? So far I'm looking at Matt's at the Market, Union, Salumi on Tuesday for lunch. We've eaten at Le Pichet, Crow, and Cafe Campagne and a few bakeries. The show on Sunday starts at 8 and is at the WaMu Theatre (800 Occidental Ave S), and we are staying at The Fairmont. thanks!
  11. chrisamirault: I meant I'm looking for a destination thats known its food among other things. Thanks for all the input. Thailand has been recommended by a number of people, maybe its a sign. Milagai: I haven't thought of India at all! I know its a stereotype (and a bad one at that), but when I think of Goa, I think raves. The photos I looked up are amazing! Thanks!
  12. Hi! It's been about three years since my last vacation, it's lonnnng overdue! I'd love some suggestions. There are so many places I'd love to go and I'm having a very hard time deciding. Top two criteria: Must have delicious food and great beaches. I will be travelling with my boyfriend We prefer a backpacking type trip, we don't want to stay in an all inclusive We are both 24 We are thinking 3-4 weeks should give us adequate time to see a country We'd like to see a few cities Budget: we are on one! Any input is appreciated! I'll wait to see what people post before I say where I'm thinking of going. Thanks!
  13. I think I've seen them at Gourmet Warehouse. ← Thank you
  14. Does anyone know where to find Marcona almonds besides Whole Foods? Thanks!
