'Wichcraft has some of the best sandwiches in New York city. I have been known to travel from the far reaches of Manhattan to go there when a craving strikes. I always get a hot sandwich when I go. The pork with the pepper relish is especially good...
  2. As someone who loved the restaurant in New Orleans, I will continue to be a patron here in New York- regardless of what any critic says. New Orleans is such a special and magical place; I certainly appreciate the efforts to try and capture some of that feeling here in the Big Apple. To the partner of the restaurant.... Will you be serving Louisiana Gulf oysters at the bar?
  3. I must say I was excited when the restaurant opened, as the New Orleans branch was truly a favorite for New Orleans locals. I have been once, and so far it was the best I have had in New York- the food was great - but it doesn't match the amazing feeling you get at the place down south. The one time I went, I was pleasently suprised at the amount of food we got for a great price. The fried chicken was a real standout as well.. It sure is a long trek for someone who lives in Brooklyn Heights, though
  4. Are there any ideas out there about the best cajun or creole food in New York? As someone who has lived in New Orleans in the past, I certainly appreciate a deft hand with the blackening spices, but haven't come across many opportunities here in the city. Are there any special kitchens out there doing great things with this small subculture of food?
  5. Union Pacific's crispy sweetbreads are always a winner- one of the best things there. They are always cooked perfectly, and served piping hot - which I think is the key to great sweetbreads!
  6. I live about 1 block away, and I have no plans on returning! I could not imagine someone taking either the Staten Island ferry, or the BQE to eat at this restaurant. Why it ever showed up on this thread baffles me - just because someone puts fiddlehead ferns and morel mushrooms on thier menu outside of Manhattan, you think it deserves four stars? There is about as much "ambiance" as a TGI Fridays, and about as high a quality of service. A four star restaurant is not just about food, it is about coming as close to perfection as possible, in all aspects of an experience. While food is certainly a huge part of this, restuarants who strive for excellence in the "total package" should be rewarded and recognized on a higher level. I think my hamburger the other day at the Parker Meridian was simply the finest burger I have ever had in my life, but do I think the New York Times should give Burger Joint 4 stars because of it? I am not that unrealistic..
  7. Henry's End? This is a good family, neighborhood "joint" - not a four star restaurant. The food is good, but to call it "four star" level is simply not accurate. Well, maybe the mud pie...
