  1. I second the recomendation for Spargo's Grille in Manalapan. I Cavellini in Colts Neck is very good and I love El Meson. When Peking Pavillion finishes rebuilding from the fire I'll be there, I miss them terribly. I'd avoid Citrus in Freehold though. Very disappointing. And the guy who posted about it must own it. He only posts when he jumps on threads and tries to talk it up.
  2. Nathans with the casing is #1 Hebrew National with casing is #2 Never had the Best with casing but would like to try
  3. Had a wonderful meal on December 16. I had a very nice foie gras appetizer. My wife had nicely presented oysters. I had the duck and she had the cod as our entrees, both excellent and we had a very nice cheese course to finish. It was our first time and we will be returning soon.
  4. My wife and I have to drop our daughter at a concert Friday night and wait around to pick her up. We want to go for Peking duck and I am looking for suggestions. Also if you have other favorite dishes at the place you mention please share those as well. Thanks in advance. Jeff
  5. We'll be at Nicholas in Middletown for Thanksgiving. Should be a great meal but I'll miss the leftovers.
  6. Freehold/Manalapan area has nothing in the way of a decent bakery. Or butcher for that matter but don't get me started.
  7. I miss D'artagnan. Poached foie gras in duck broth was heavenly. I miss La Caravelle. I miss the old Lutece. I miss Su Su's Yum Yum on Henry Street in Brooklyn Heights.
  8. The best pizza in NJ is at Delorenzos on Hudson Street in Trenton. No contest. Crisp tasty crust, crushed tomatos, not too much cheese. The garlic is hand chopped, the pepperoni hand cut into thick slices. three kinds of peppers are available. Chunks not slices of sausage. Well worth the inevitable line to get in, lack of a bathroom and cash only. 3-10 only except lunch on Friday.
  9. I don't know but I wish I did. The folks at Lincroft Inn said they didn't know, which was expected. If I find out I will be there because he is very good.
  10. I'm sorry to report that Eric Hambrecht is no longer the chef at the Lincroft Inn. If our dinner last night was representative, the quality has dropped significantly.
  11. Not in order of any kind Spargo's Grille Manalapan La Spiaggia Ship Bottom Frog and the Peach New Brunswick Lincroft Inn Lincroft Peregrines Atlantic City Sterling Brunch Atlantic City
  12. What did you have? ← I started with butternut squash ravioli in a herb/butter sauce which were very nice. Pina colada chicken salad which has chinese noodles, pineapple chunks, chicken, chopped salad and a tropical kind of dressing is very refreshing and then cheatuabriand (sp?). All were wonderful. My wife had the butternut squash ravioli, a salad special with greens, apples, goat cheese and spiced nuts of some kind and a veal scallopine special with sausage, artichoke hearts and potato in a rich dark broth. They had a special dessert of Bananas Foster over ice cream in some kind of sweet tortilla shell which was out of this world and was the perfect ending to a great meal.
  13. We dined at Spargo's last night. Tim Murphy is still chef/owner and the place is still wonderful. The menu has recently been updated which was overdue and the specials are always creative and interesting.
  14. Citrus was very disappointing. The menu is interesting but the finished product was very ordinary. My wife and I found the service uneven despite only 3 tables being occupied on a Friday night. 75 South has gone steadily downhill over the past 3 years and is nothing like the quality place it once was. The best of downtown Freehold is El Meson for Mexican and Trattoria Portobello and La Cippolina for Italian. Federici's for pizza of course.
  15. La Spiaggia in Ship Bottom is the best on LBI. Upscale Italian. BYOB. Valet parking. Good service and Great food.
  16. I concur. Escondido's is awful. Think Friday's or Chili's but even worse. El Meson is the best Mexican around.
  17. FYI, Red Bank Melting Pot is not open yet. The message on their machine says late summer/early fall.
  18. What's Your Beef is a very nice place to go. Good quality meat and salad bar .
  19. The best restaurant overall on LBI happens to be Italian. It is La Spiaggia on the causeway in Ship Bottom. Wonderful and creative food. Not cheap but its BYOB so that helps and its clearly worth the price. Good service, valet parking, you need reservations on the weekends in the summer. They close in the winter
  20. They're not Buffalo wings but the best wings of any kind I have ever tasted are at the Pea Pod on RT 34 in Old Bridge. They are called Chicken Wings Peppery and are out of this world!
