Hi folks, Straightforward request, really: what is the best value chocolatier in NYC? At the bottom of the list, I gather, is Godiva. I also know that there are a lot of really good chocolatiers (La Maison, Payard, Torres, etc.) but which is best for someone who loves excellent quality chocolate, but hasn't got a fortune to spend on it? quel désastre! REAL dining decisions!! what a downside!!! c'mon, marcus, it's just a magazine "most popular" list! a semi-serious measure of culinary zeitgeist, not some sort of live-or-die official ranking.

oh yes, cata 1.81 on calle valencia is fabulous, and ideal for the more economically constrained epicure.

i'm new to new york, and haven't had anything memorable from a street vendor yet. i work at mount sinai, which is on madison, between E98th and 101st, so most of the carts on this thread are pretty inaccessible as lunch options. all we have right outside the hospital are a couple of fairly shabby hotdog vendors. does anyone know of any good carts a little further uptown?
