  1. was anyone else surprised to see Birmingham (UK) getting a mention for Selfridges food hall when the real markets are right next door? Don't get me wrong, think visiting Selfridges is a fantastic experience and great for gifts because of the great looking packaging, but when you have the marvellous indoor and outdoor markets selling good quality fish, meat and vegetables at reasonable prices - how can you compare? I have a vague recollection that at one point, the wholesale markets in Birmingham sold more fish than anywhere else in the country - despite being completely landlocked! But am happy to be corrected if someone knows better .... and on a more mischievous note, surely Leeds market should get a special mention just for having a tripe stall!
