I would encourage you to try both of them, but neither is really my idea of a business dinner place, especially Chloe. Chive might work if the people are young and hip though.

I'm really enjoying your reports and photos. More please.

If you don't mind eating at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, you might try calling or emailing Mon Vieil Ami. We were able to book there at that time on a Sunday on fairly short notice. In the same vein as Pied du Cochon, you could still probably book at Bofinger for Sunday.

Funky is in the eye of the beholder. But the first place I thought about was Aux Trois Oliviers, 37 bis rue Montpensier, across a narrow street from the Palais Royale. It's a small, simple place with good provencal food and the friendliest of owners, Edouard and his lovely wife, who made us feel like family. Chef Bruno does the cooking.

L' Angle de Faubourg is near your hotel, and although not inexpensive, we enjoyed it very much. In the Marais, we really enjoyed Le Pamphlet.

A couple of other random thoughts: There are some very good one star places. And too many stars in too short of time can be too much.

We had a great dinner at Taillevant in July. I wrote briefly about it, and there are other reviews as well on here. The seven course menu degustation is 130E at dinner, and they have some very interesting wines that won't break the bank. I would ask to be seated in the main dining room if you decide to go.

Thanks for the reviews. I think you were dead on about L'Univers, and I would love to try the others.

Taco shops are the way to go.

You can do a lot better than Rubio's.

Thank you to all for the informative and entertaining reviews.

From my experience with French pharmacies, I think the pharmacist would more likely personally explain any limitations in diet recommended for whatever medications are being dispensed. You would also be out of there in 5 minutes and not pay an arm and a leg for the medicine.

There's a Farmer's Market in the downtown Carlsbad area on Wednesdays from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. If you go take Carlsbad Village Drive Off I-5 and go west, it's on your right, behind the Blockbuster Video. There used to be another one in the parking lot of what is now the Holiday Inn (there's a big windmill there) across from the flower fields, but I don't think they are still doing it. They would probably know at your resort. There are other Farmer's Markets in all the towns around here, so you can hit one of them if you miss the one in Carlsbad.
We have our share of big supermarkets, among them Von's, Ralph's and Albertson's. You might also take a look at Seaside Market in Cardiff or Jimbo's Naturally, two stores I shop in often. Seaside is a small, friendly market with great produce, excellent seafood, meats and poultry, specialty items, a big deli and prepared food section, and great bread. Jimbo's is a little larger, and has about 90% high-quality organic produce, good prepared foods, and good meats, poultry and seafood. Jimbo's has a healthfood emphasis. Both are more expensive than the big supermarkets, but the quality is much better IMO.
I don't think you can take food into Disneyland. There have been threads on places to eat in around there though.

The Karl Strauss Brewery adjacent to the Grand Pacific Palisades makes very good beer, and the food is pretty decent, too. Bellefleur is close to you, and is also good, although not inexpensive. The same for King's. Across the freeway, I say yes to Sammy's Woodfired Pizza and In-and-Out Burger, no to the Claim Jumper. Are you going to visit Legoland?

I don't think you can go wrong with your three dinner choices. Unless you are very big eaters, I would suggest you go very light on lunches. Even bistros serve a decent amount of food at lunch.
We really liked Les Ormes on our recent trip. For Sunday, you might consider Mon Vieil Ami. We liked it so much when we tried it on Sunday, we went back a week later.

Same here, Bux.
I'm in for the pate, whatever the B word.

Looks like the real thing. Hard to tell from the photos, but I think the carnitas are on the bottom.

The Hilton is sort of by itself, and I don't think you can comfortably walk to anything from there. Downtown, Old Town, the beaches and the Convoy area are all a short drive though.

I might be able to suggest some places in and around Carlsbad. What kind of food are you looking for? What part of Carlsbad will you be staying in? How far do you want to drive?
I agree that Chinese food is not a good choice around here, especially for someone coming from Malaysia. You wouldn't recognize a lot of what is served, and probably wouldn't like what you do recognize.
A couple of inexpensive places come immediately to mind if you are in the downtown Carlsbad area. If you want good Mexican food, I would suggest Pollo Maria. For Pizza, the best deal around is at Knockout Pizza on Carlsbad Blvd.

I called Emerald, and they advised they have been open for a month after the fire.

Thanks for your impressions of Taillevent.
-
I also enjoyed L'Univers, and look forward to your report.

Thanks for the commentary. It was fun to read it.
(You might want to check the date on the Maison Carré though.)

Convoy Street, which is very near you, has a lot of Asian Restaurants. I would recommend Emerald, 3709 Convoy St., and Jasmine, 4609 Convoy St., for good, quite authentic Hong Kong/Cantonese cuisine, including dim sum at lunch. I would also recommend Phoung Trang, 4170 Convoy St., (on the west side of Convoy in a strip mall) for authentic Vietnamese food. They have pho, and some Chinese dishes, but I would skip them in favor of the other Vietnamese dishes. There are also several Korean barbecue places along Convoy. Those should all be comfortably in your price range.
For Mexican, my favorite taco shop is Harvest Taco Shop, 9350 Clairemont Mesa Blvd, in the back of a strip mall on the north-west corner of Clairemont Mesa Blvd. and Ruffin Road. It's hard to spend $10 there. From Aero Drive, you would go north on Kearny Villa Rd. and turn right on Clairemont Mesa. When you get to Ruffin Road, make a u-turn and pull into the first drive-way. It's in the back of that little center.
