  1. The American Society of Barcelona holds a Thanksgiving Dinner each year with all the usual dishes, and it's open to non-members as well. I think the web site is http://www.amersoc.com.
  2. Do you have a recipe or steps to making your yuba?
  3. When I went in April 2006 I found http://www.japaneseguesthouses.com/index.htm an invaluable resource. There are reviews and photos and they will reserve it for you if you like. Very good customer service and speedy replies as well. We stayed at Arai in Shuzenji on the Izu peninsula and it was spectacular.
  4. Thank you everyone for your help! Hopefully he was able to get his fix tonight
  5. thanks for your thorough replies, it's crystal clear to me now...
  6. Thank you very much for your help so far! I'm glad we actually looked into it, he probably would've returned with food poisoning had he gone to Rusholme (judging from the reviews I had read). Keep the recommendations coming!
  7. My husband has one night in Manchester tomorrow night (Tuesday December 12) and because we live in Barcelona with its lamentable Indian restaurants, he has this one chance to get his curry fix. Thom, or anyone knowledgeable, can you help??? The most important factor is authentic. Ambiance is not important as long as it's delicious. We've been reading about Rusholme but customer reviews of most of the restaurants on http://www.rusholmecurry.co.uk are dismal to say the least. Any help would be much appreciated!
  8. i have a potentially dumb question here - if ciroc vodka is famous for being made with grapes, isn't it technically a grappa or a marc?

    White Rioja

Their red is probably best classified as a "classic" Rioja red, and 2001 was a good vintage in Rioja, so I'm not surprised that you enjoyed it! See if you can give the 2004 white a try....

    White Rioja

Remelluri has a great one made from Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, White Grenache, Chardonnay, Marsanne, Petit Courbut, and Roussanne. The current vintage is 2004 and it's just gorgeous. More info on the Remelluri Web site if you're interested.
  11. I checked other webpages concerning this restraunt, and I found there are certain risks involved. For example, they do not accept reservations, there is a line of people depending on the day and time, they make you wait for 30 to 90 minutes after they take orders, they close as soon as their unagi are sold out for that day, etc. http://www.tocera-sky.co.jp/dt_obana.htm http://tokyo.gourmet.livedoor.com/restaurant/info/51.html But the restaurant is attractive. It is said to be No. 1 in Kanto (Eastern part of Japan), and they serve tennen mono (natural ones, not cultured)! ← I had an amazing experience at Obana - we ate various styles of unagi. We started with eel in ponzu sauce (uzaku), shirayaki (lightly grilled and still pink in the middle), wrapped in a fluffy omelet (umaki) - and it was all stellar. We also had a reservation (our hotel made the arrangements for us) however maybe the rules have changed since we went this April. I don't remember waiting too long after we arrived, but mainly because we pre-ordered specific dishes we had read about.
  12. this is most probably orujo de hierbas from galicia.

    "Tire"-like aroma in wine

Burnt rubber sounds more like it. It had already been open for 3 hours before I tried it, so i'm not sure that further aeration would've helped. The strange thing is, when I gave it to the customer to taste, she said it was great, and was raving about the wine before she left. Since about half of the bottle was left behind, I gave some to the waitstaff to try, and that is when we noticed it. A real shame, since it's around 60 euros/bottle (and both bottles were this customer's, and she "approved" both bottles).
  14. Hi everyone! This is my first time posting in the Wine forum. Question: I opened two bottles of Marta de Balta 2001 tonight (Pares Balta winery, D.O. Penedes, Spain) and the first one had an awful aroma of tires/rubber and the second one also had it, although not as pronounced. Has anyone ever noticed this in any wine they've opened? In the past I've only noticed when a wine is off but have never smelled anything like this before.
  15. I often buy from Padró Esteve on C/ Pau Claris, 169 (corner with C/ Rosselló). They have some really interesting and original wines, and the staff are extremely helpful.
