  1. There's an Oyster Festival in Leonardtown, MD on the St. Mary's County Fairgrounds on Rt. 5. It's a big deal down there, because the winner of the oyster shucking contest goes on to compete in Ireland (?).
  2. Thanks!! Any chance you went to SMC during... oh... 1994-2000? I've heard that a fellow alumnus started a catering co. down there. I'll do some checking out. Maybe during Gov Cup. :)
  3. jariggs- Spinnakers, one of my old favorites, fell victim to Hurrican Isabel. The old chef, John Spinnichia (sp?) is now teaching, I believe. I also went to St. Mary's. Would you (or anyone) happen to know of any good caterers in that area, as I just got engaged and am in the throes of planning a wedding at the Garden of Remembrance?
  4. I live about a block from the Safeway on Columbia (Spanish Safeway?). Despite the convenience, I limit my grocery list there to toilet paper, sponges, etc. (after too many inedible or disappointing meat and produce experiences). The trek to the P Street Whole Foods is more than worth the drive/walk and crowds. That said- I recently bought a moldy yogurt from the Reston Whole Foods (opened on the day of purchase). I heard through a neighbor that there might be a Harris Teeter opening soon in the Kalorama area. Anyone heard of this? Leaving for the Keys in a few hours, where we get to shop at Publix...
  5. OK, gotta know (as I'm also a huge eggs benedict fan)- what ever does Kitchen Conf. say about them? Or is ignorance bliss?
  6. Looks like I won't be making it tonight. Have fun!!
  7. I turned 28 last week. But I'm not a confirmed attendee quite yet...
  8. JennyUpptown! We seem to share a mutual friend- Shai- who's here at the moment (her beau Matt is a sweetie). I might try to meet y'all at Sette. If it's not too late. Let me know. Thanks! -Martha
  9. Having just eaten at the Reef on Thursday, I can confirm that they're serving dinner on the roof deck. Two comments on the food, though- The past few times I've ordered the chicken (which I do enjoy), the portion (of chicken, that is- sides were ample) was ridiculously tiny. Never a problem with my male companion. And last time, my accompanying "mashed potatoes" seemed quite like polenta- grainy, gummy, and yellow-ish, though tasty. All of my fellow diners had a taste, and we were all stumped. Honestly couldn't tell if they were potatoes or polenta. Tasted like a hybrid.
  10. The whole order of the half chicken, that is.
  11. One. As an average-sized young woman, and I have no problem scarfing down half of the wonderful Palena fries, every bit of the whole succulent, crisp-skinned roast chicken, and a dessert. Man, that pumpkin cheesecake is amazing!!
