  1. Trattoria Alberto next to Banana Cafe can be very good, but then again your standards for Hill restaurants have been so lowered that you may think it's exceptional. One of my favorites is the bisteca that Las Placitas serves. Very tasty. I like Aatish too. Then again, there's the Tune Inn for a true "nostalgie de la boue" experience....great corned beef hash !
  2. another vote for Front Page as worst burger...and...Front Page for absolutely abysmal Brunch. I'd rather be mugged and have $ 20.00 stolen from me than to give it to the Front Page. I sooo miss the Little Tavern. Late night drunk central. Loved it!!!
  3. I'm in for any of those days, preference for 17th tough
  4. The gazpacho at the Breadline also kicks ass, as does the cold, spicy peanut soup.
  5. Here's a thought...check with Gillian to see if it's OK, but it would be great publicity for CK and Egullet for a WP reporter (Mark Fisher?) to be invited to cover the event. Something along the lines of "Good food crosses all barriers".
  6. Can't make it... doing the beach thing...
  7. The Sept 21 date might work best , it's removed from both the Labor day weekend and Rosh Hashanah. Thoughts ? Shrimp and grits...and maybe "the Best of Chef" tasting menu, a little pork, a little meatloaf, maybe a little fried chicken, mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus...DAMN, is it lunchtime yet !!!
  8. Rhodegirl - Are you sure you want to do this ? We're a ferocious bunch of foodophiles. Don't get near any of us when we're eating, you risk losing a limb. Hillvalley - Thanks, that would be great. Yet another food function that will make me late for work the next morning.
  9. God...I love being stalked !! Especially by someone as enchanting as Hillvalley.
  10. If another group dinner is scheduled it might be planned it such a way that those in the group who wish to blow a bundle on Micheal's remarkably underpriced wines can do so. To be totally honest, that meal cried out for a killer Burgundy or a Cote du Rhone. (maybe a Cote Rotie). The wine we had was just fine, and terrifically priced but other options would be a plus. It worked out pretty well at the Indian Dinner. A dinner menu and individual drink bill ?
  11. Great sex or Michael's deviled eggs...damn, it's a toss up. I'm so glad he only served us one each. I could have eaten a dozen. The calamari and accompanying asparagus had the slightest grill taste to them that made them totally scarfable. I have never had a better hanger steak. I'm not sure I will ever order it anywhere else, it would only be a disappointment. OK, maybe in Paris. While the rest of the group were eating their steaks in a very polite, portion-controlled fashion, I was inhaling mine. This was an incredibly plump, juicy, tender piece of meat. The sides were comparable to the best served at any of the hugely expensive steak joints in DC. Michael asked us to convey to everyone, especially Steve klc, that his speciality is steaks NOT dessert. You want dessert go to Reeves, you want steak, run to Ray's the Steaks. It was great to meet everyone. I'm looking forward to doing that again soon. BTW, Hillvalley is a kickass driver. Thanks again !
  12. Thanks for the Vidalia "heads-up", I canceled my reservation for Sunday dinner. Those supplemental charges are like getting pecked to death by ducks. I agree with Rocks either do the RW thing or don't do it. As for Tosca, I went once, and was treated rudely. Never returned. I think that when Roberto re-vamped his wait staff the ones who left found a home at Tosca. What is the deal with Italian restaurant waiters with attitude ??? And, it seems that complaining to a manager/maitre d' does no good whatsoever. It is management that allows this situation to flourish. AARRGGHH
  13. Count me in as well...for the dinner, not for the entrecote. Let's get Michael to adjust the price so that it includes the deviled eggs and other "must haves".
  14. I believe I read that you were working on a novel. Have you finished it and has it been published ? Was just wondering if you use the ritual of dining as metaphor.
  15. Any volunteers to organize this ??? I agree with Mark, a Sunday night would be ideal.
  16. My one experience at Tesoro about a year ago was a keeper. I ordered the Saltimbocca, it arrives accompanied by some pasta, I ask for some fresh, grated parmesan cheese, waiter goes to get some, returns to tell me they're out of parmesan, would I like some fresh, grated mozzerella instead. Mind you, it's 7:30pm, the restaurant is across the street from Calvert Woodley, Giant Food and, in a worst case scenario, CVS for the cardboard stuff. Someone can't make a cheese run ! As I'm eating the Saltimbocca, the lack of cheese is eating at me. The waiter walks by and I stop him to ask that he relay my annoyance about the cheese situation to a manager. He looks at me and says "don't blame me it's not my fault"! Haven't been back since, BTW, the Saltimbocca was pretty good.
  17. Any day of any of those 3 weeks. I have a very quiet life.
  18. I'm easy. Any day is good for me in the next few weeks.
  19. Sound good to me...how about July 5 ???
  20. Count me in...sounds great !
  21. Roberto is grilling today...
